Sameer Mirji brought his dream of visiting Switzerland to life when he booked his honeymoon package to Switzerland with his wife through TravelTriangle. At a price of Rs 229,253, his package included his accommodation, and some transfers and tours. He had the time of his life and he shares with us his prized memories.

My wife and I share a lot of similar interests. Both of us love music, movies, traveling and exploring new things. Switzerland was one such ‘thing’, which we had only dreamed about. We got a chance to fulfill this dream when it came to deciding our honeymoon destination. The trip turned out to be an unforgettable experience, as we were left astounded by the postcard-like scenery — time and again. Moreover, to witness the snow-capped mountains or sub-zero temperatures for the first time, no place could have been better than the mighty Alps of Switzerland!

Day 1: Landing in Europe

Sameer in Europe

We arrived in Europe at the airport in Zurich, from where began the series of our tryst with the Swiss Rail. By train, we reached Lucerne in an hour. Our stay in Lucerne was pre-booked at Cascada Hotel. After a quick check in, we stay put at the hotel for the rest of the day and relaxed. The long journey had been extremely tiring.

Day 2: Excursion to Mt. Titlis

The cable car ride in Mt. Titlis

Waking up in the warmth of our hotel room on a chilly morning of Lucerne, we prepared for a day trip to Mt. Titlis. There were Gondola rides at regular intervals to move up and down the mountain. Although we were roaming around by ourselves, the locals were there to help us. Through most of the trip, we enjoyed the Swiss rail, witnessing some breathtaking panoramas. From Lucerne, we took a train to Engelberg (which leaves from Lucerne every hour) and reached within an hour. The brief journey featured many jaw-dropping sites and was further beautified with lightly falling snow.

Sameer at Mt Titlis in Switzerland

On reaching Engelberg, we took the famous Titlis Rotair gondola – a cable car which rotates 360 degrees to offer a full view of the alps — to reach Mt. Titlis. The place turned out to be a stunner, true to its reputation. Here, we spent around two hours to ourselves, enjoying the stunning Swiss Alps. As part of the tour, we were to experience the Ice Flyer and Glacier Cave too. But Ice Flyer was put out due to moderately heavy snow on that day. Also, we didn’t visit the Glacier Cave since it was snowing. We preferred to spend time in the snow instead and thoroughly enjoyed each moment of it. We had lunch at a restaurant before returning to Lucerne in the evening.

Day 3: A day at Interlaken

Sameer in Interlaken

Checking out from Lucerne Cascada Hotel, we took to the town located between two lakes – Interlaken. Embarking on a journey on the Swiss rail once again, we reached Interlaken and lodged at City Oberland. Since being in Europe is like living a dream, we wanted to make the best of it. So, making the hotel our home during the day, we visited the local town in the evening and went shopping for clothes and artifacts.

Day 4: Reaching Zermatt

The view from Sameer's hotel in Zermatt

The next destination in our list was Zermatt. Bidding adieu to Interlaken, we reached the snow-clad city of Zermatt by train. Our hotel Zermatt Hotel Testa Grigia was at a five-minute walk from the train station. After spending some time at the hotel, the rest of the day was spent sightseeing in the incredible city and experiencing the local culture.

Day 5: Day 2 in Zermatt

Cable car ride in Mt Matterhorn

Our second day in Zermatt was booked for the Mt Matterhorn glacier paradise. We witnessed the highest cable car station in Europe, which featured a 360 degrees panoramic view of the Alps. On reaching the mountain peak, we had a delicious lunch, with a fantastic view of the ski track in the background. We returned to our hotel by evening and dined at the hotel’s restaurant itself.

Day 6 : Zurich

With a heavy heart, we checked out from the beautiful town of Zermatt and went straight to Zurich via train. This journey was almost like covering South to North of Switzerland. We experienced drastic climate changes all through the journey and reached Zurich late-afternoon.

In Zurich, we had booked the Park Inn by Radisson Hotel (5 km from the airport), so that we could easily board the flight the next day. In the evening, we went around a couple of stores adjacent to the hotel, for last-day-shopping. The night was beautiful and offered a perfect closure to our trip.

Day 7 – Flying back home

We had not come to Europe to hurry through its main tourist spots. Throughout our trip, whenever we reached a city, we took our time to settle in and only then did we go out to explore the place, its people and its culture. The whole trip had been an enriching experience and as the last day of our trip arrived, we prepared to part from this beauty. Rejoicing in a sumptuous breakfast, we checked out from the hotel and headed straight to the airport, for the flight back to India.

Sameer with his wife in Europe

With TravelTriangle, I was able to get everything booked in prior, without any glitches. It was greatly helpful to have gotten everything organized at one place. With the help of Bhawna, a representative of Global Walk Holiday Packages Tour Ltd., we were able to enjoy a hassle-free and pleasurable experience. All the reservations and bookings were made as indicated and helped us craft memories for lifetime.

High Point: Excursion to the amazing peaks of the alps (Mt Titlis and Mt Matterhorn) and traveling across Switzerland in the continent’s best connected transport (Swiss/Euro Rail), were the best takeaways from the trip. Moreover, experiencing our very first snow at Lucerne was a mesmerizing experience.

Low Point: We wanted to cover Geneva in our visit as well, but got restricted by the budget.

Tips for travelering in Europe:

  • Stick to Swiss/Euro rail for inter-country travel.
  • Choose a decent hotel with a good view and keep some time off after mountain excursions, for relaxation.
  • If you need privacy, try to stay away from regular tourist places and explore other lesser known amazing cities/towns (Eg.: Zermatt). They give one of the finest views of the landscape of Switzerland.
