How to reach historic places in London

By Road

London’s iconic double-decker buses are a quick and cheap way to travel around the city with plenty of sightseeing options. On most routes buses are frequent during normal Monday to Friday daytime hours. To experience heritage tours you can use a routemaster red bus. Traditional Routemaster buses have been taken out of public services from all routes. Now they are used by several private companies for London tours and entertainment.

By Train

Once you leave Central London or if you are traveling South of River Thames National Rail is the best transportation option available. Travel cards can be used for travel on a National Rail. There are number of attractions within Central London that also require you to transfer to a National Rail as no underground station is available. Attractions within London that have a national rail station only a short walk away include Buckingham Palace, National Gallery, The Tower of London, etc.

Getting yourself a street map that has tube lines and station marked will help you to find a station near to historic places. Get an oyster card than buying a single ticket, as single ticket is expensive. Most affordable way to ride the tube all day is to buy an oyster card or a travel card.

By water

There are a number of different routes along River Thames. These routes pass through a number of historic places like Houses of Parliament and London Bridge etc. There are also a number of leisure cruises available. Fares for River services vary a great deal between routes. With travel cards, one will get a discount off the price of riverboat services. You can also purchase DLR Rail and River Rover tickets which combine travel on DLR with hop on and hop off travel on river boats.
