How to Reach Dholavira in Kutch

Dholavira is the site for one of the biggest archaeological digs for the Harappan civilisation. Located in Khadirbet, Bhachau Taluka, Kutch District, this is a much-visited site because of its interesting finds and the fact that it still seems like it belongs to a bygone era.

The best time to visit Dholavira is between October to February. Being in the Rann of Kutch, temperatures can get high in the summers so travel during this time is best avoided.

The closest airport to Dholavira is Bhuj. Bhuj is connected to major cities across India by Jet airways and Air India. The Airport is about 220 kilometres from Dholavira. Taxis and buses ply between the two towns. You can either hire one or take a bus to Dholavira.

Dholavira does not have a train station too. The closest major station is Bhuj, which is 219 kilometres away. There is a small station called Rapar, which is 92 kilometres away, and stations like Samkhiala Junction and Bhachau. All the major trains bound for Bhuj stop here. You can also disembark here and hire a taxi to Dholavira.

The most convenient way to reach Dholavira is by road. Gujarat has an excellent road network and it is very easy to travel by road. Hire a taxi or a self-driven car to Dholavira or take a bus. The Gujarat State transport system operates buses every day at specified times. A bus leaves from Bhuj at 14:00 and arrives at Dholavira at 20:30. It leaves at 05:00 the next morning and returns to Bhuj by 11:30.

Private tour operators also offer to lease out buses to large groups so that you can travel at your leisure.
