About St Mary’s Basilica in Bangalore

St Mary’s Basilica is one of the oldest churches located in the Archdiocese of Bangalore. The church is built in gothic style with special architectural techniques. It has stained glass windows, adorning walls, beautiful arches and towering facade. It was designed by a french architect long back. The church is 172 feet long. The church also has a huge statue of Mother Mary standing and holding a baby in her arms.  St Mary’s Basilica is one of those churches which restores the traditional faith of christianity. The church is just 5 kms away from the Bangalore Junction, one can take a private cab or a taxi to reach St Mary’s Basilica. The best time to visit St Mary’s Basilica is september when the church is celebrating its annual festival. Every year the church celebrates St Mary’s Feast which is a 10 day long festival. The festival signifies and celebrates the birth of Mother Mary. it is one of the most important festival of St Mary’s Basilica and is attended by more than thousand people every year. The festival involves act of humanity like feeding the poor and the needy ones, serving them and doing social service for the underprivileged ones. A flag is also hosted to mark the beginning of the festival.
