Wagah Border Parade, Amritsar (Punjab)

Wagah Border is the only road border between India and Pakistan. The Beating Retreat Ceremony held here every evening marks the closing of the borders of both the countries and lowering of the flags by the military of both the countries. Located close to the Attari Village, Wagah Border is a major crossing between India and Pakistan. It is known for its high-spirited ‘Lowering of Flags’ ceremony which is the major attraction of this place. This ceremony is also known as Beating Retreat at the international level. One of the most exciting activities in Amritsar for tourists is watching the Wagah Border Parade.

History Of Wagah Border

Wagah Border is the only road crossing border between India and Pakistan and it is also called the Berlin Wall of Asia. This border is on the Grand Trunk Road and is 23 km from Lahore and 28 km from Amritsar. The Beating Retreat Ceremony was started in the year 1959 on the agreement of the government of both the countries. The ceremony is held every evening which marks the official closing of the borders between both the countries and lowering of the flags.

Wagah Border Ceremony

This popular event takes place every evening before sunset. Soldiers of Indian Border Security Force and Pakistan Rangers perform this ceremony at the border. This electrifying ceremony begins with a booming parade by the soldiers and ends with a lowering of flags on both sides. As soon as the sun sets, the border gates are opened and one soldier from each side comes forward and shakes hand with the other along with folding of flags. The Wagah Border Parade is truly a wonderful spectacle worth attending.

Facts About Wagah Border:

The marching with the very high lifting of legs is called the Goose Marching.

The Wagah Border ceremony is 45 minutes long.

Anybody can watch this ceremony free of cost.

The ceremony is carried out by India’s BSF Jawans and Pakistan Rangers.

The ceremony is postponed during the tension or war-like situation between the two countries.

So, do not forget to pay a visit to the Wagah Border on your next visit to Amritsar, to be a part of one of the most exciting military ceremonies in the world. Wagah Border in Punjab is one of the main attractions and attracts a large number of tourists every year. The ceremony held at Wagah Border will surely give patriotic feelings to all those visiting this place. One can even take part in the dance session which is held just before the parade.

Zamindar's 8 days trip to Amritsar

It was a wonderful experience touring with one of Travel Triangle's associated Tour Operator "Wild Lotus". the services were great. Special thanks to the Tour Manager Rakesh Gilly for being so cooperative. He has been always there for any assistance. The Hotels were as commited just had to compromis
e a bit with food at some hotels. Hotels provided at Shimla & Dharamshala were the best anyone can get at this price. Hotels at Manali, Dalhousie & Amritsar were also fair enough if compared to the price they charged. Even the car which was provided for local transport was new & in good condition as promised by Rakesh Gilly. The driver was very humble, professional & deciplined. The itenerary was very well planned by Rakesh Gilly & covered almost every tourist spot. In all it was a great experience & from now Wild Lotus will be my preferred tour operator when it comes to touring North India. Thanks again Rakesh Gilly.

Overall trip was good. They followed whatever mentioned in the package. Only thing is we felt that the driver was not properly briefed. For the first day we reached Chandigarh very late hence we had to take dinner on the way other than from the booked hotel. This expense has been agreed and allowed
to deduct. Appreciate for that. The hotel at Chandigarh was fine. But hotel at Amritsar was not that much standard one. Plus the dining area was not good place. Food was very good in both places. Car driver is very good. driving was perfect. But there was no space at all in this Innova to keep the luggage. we struggled to accommodate and had to keep in the seats. We all came from different places hence all were having luggage. Overall it is very good.
