About Coonoor

Coonoor is one of the most fascinating, exuberant and enervating hill stations in Southo of India and is located amidst Nilgiri hills in Tamil Nadu. The area offers views of exquisite landscapes. One can view the area around Coonoor through toy train. The train connects Coonoor withother hill stations located in the Nilgiri Hills. The train ride provides an amazing and stunning view of Nilgiri Hills. The area of Coonoor is also  utilizedduring film making by Indian as well as English directors.



CONNECTIVITY TO COONOOR:
The Nilgiri Mountain Railway service between Ooty and Mettupalayam is available with stop at Coonoor. The nearest airport from Coonoor is Coimbatore Peelamdeu Airport,  which is at a distance of 70 km. Regular state owned bus services are available from Coimbatore, Ooty and other cities for Coonoor.



ATTRACTIONS IN COONOOR:
Droog Fort is located in an area surrounding Coonoor. Trekking is undertaken to get inside the fort. Tradition says that this fort was used by Tipu Sultan asan outpost. Droog Fort is also known as Bakasura Malai after the legend of a local demon Bakasura.
Catherine Falls popularly known as St. Catherine Falls is a beautiful and enchanting waterfall which falls from an impressive 250 feet. It can easily be viewedfrom the top of Dolphon's Nose. It is also possible to take a road to the top of the falls. The surrounding landscape is simply mesmerizing.
Dolphin's Nose is a very unique rock formation. The protruding rock formation looks exactly like a Dolphin's Nose. The gigantic ravines can be viewed on the leftas well as right side of Dolphin's Nose. In one of the ravines can be viewed the awe inspiring Catherine Falls. In the other ravine one can spot where the Coonoor stream meets the Kotagiri stream.
The Hidden Valley is in the region surrounding Coonoor. The valley view is highly breathtaking and captivating. It is possible to reach the valley through trekking. The aesthetic beauty of landscapes along with majestic mountain view make the trekking effort worth it.
Lamb's Rock is an excellent picnic spot near Coonoor. It is a point on the way to Dolphin's Nose. It is named after a man Captain Lamb who tried to open a path to this pointwith geat effort. The rock is a jagged cliff that drops down several hundred feet to the jungle below.
Sim's Park is a botanical garden developed in 1874 by Mr. J. D. Sims and Major Murray. The park houses natural trees, shrubs and creepers along with wide varietyof plants from different parts of the world. The park is tucked away in a deep valley on the northern side of Coonoor and covers twelve acres of undulating land.
Wellington's Golf Course is a popular place to enjoy an elegant round of golf. Cantonment of Wellington is situated in close proximity to Coonoor. It is in Wellington that Defense Services Staff College is located.
