Places To See
National ParkRich in bio-diversity Rajaji National Park is home to diverse range of animals and birds including elephants, leopards, tigers, and deer. Set in the Shivalik range, at the foothills of the Himalayas, the park is actually an amalgamation of three wildlife sanctuaries: Chilla, Motichur and Rajaji sanctuaries. Spread across 820 square kms, the national park consists of diverse eco-landscapes including deciduous forests, riverine vegetation, scrubland, grasslands and pine forests. Together, these landscapes play home to vivid animal and bird life. In all, 23 species of mammals and 315 bird species have been identified.
Things To Do
TrekkingThe trekking expeditions in the national park take you through dense forests and allow you to witness nature in all its glory.
Mountain BikingChallenge the wilderness if you have it in you to traverse the rough paths of the park. And if you are looking for a smooth ride, you can explore the pasture lands with soft slopes.
Wildlife SafariThere are two types of safaris available in Rajaji National Park – the elephant safari and the jeep safari. You need to take permits and tickets from the forest department before entering the park. The jeep safari is for three hours and is offered early morning and evening. These safaris give you the opportunity to see wildlife and birds in the Mundal, Khara, Mithawali, and other ranges of park.
River RaftingRiver rafting is permitted during the monsoon season and there are options available for both beginners and the experienced. Small rapids are recommended for the beginners. You need to be suitably geared for the trip and be accompanied by an experienced guide.
Tip: You need to be physically fit for river rafting. People with heart ailments are advised against the activity.
Waterfall RappellingThe waterfall near Rajaji park provides you the ultimate opportunity to negotiate down the cliff, suitably harnessed. The activity will help you conquer your fear of heights.
Bird watchingThe park is home to more than 400 species of birds and so bird watching is a favorite activity here. Be sure to carry your binoculars to spot the different species.
