2. Shackleford Banks
One of North Carolina’s most scenic barrier island systems, Shackleford Banks is well known for the mounds of oyster shells that lie around the coast here. Located right at the tip of Cape Lookout National Seashore, the windblown shore is covered in shrubs and is popular amongst collectors looking for the precious pearls.
