On the next day of our trip to Sri Lanka, we woke up early and got ready for water sports on the Bentota beach. Although, I didn’t take part in the activities, I enjoyed the lovely weather and scenic beauty that was waiting to be acknowledged by travelers.

In the afternoon, we headed for the Madu river boat cruise. During the boat cruise, we stopped by at a small islet that had a few spice farms. After seeing the rare spice growing in a garden, we went back to Bentota. Next up, we went for a very unique thing to do Sri Lanka- fish therapy.

We dipped our toes in a pool where the fishes would nibble off the dead skin off our feet. A therapeutic end to another day on the trip to Sri Lanka. After the therapy in the evening, we returned back to the hotel and called it a night.

Day 3: Exploring the Ramayana trail in Sri Lanka

Exploring The Best Of Nature On A Trip To Sri Lanka

The next day, we checked out of the resort in Bentota and got ready for our journey to Little England- Nuwara Eliya. Albeit, it took us 7 hours to reach our destination, the wait was definitely worth it.

En route to Nuwara Eliya, we started stopping at a few points of the Ramayana trail and visited the Sita Eliya temple. Upon our arrival at Nuwara Eliya, we checked into the Ramboda Falls Hotel. Before we could realize, we were surrounded with a cold blanket of mist amidst lush green hills. The place had a rustic charm about it, a trait that would distinguish it from the rest of the hill stations in Sri Lanka.

Another day of our trip to Sri Lanka ended, with a delicious dinner at the resort, followed by a calm stroll around the streets of Nuwara Eliya.

Day 4: A sweet sightseeing tour in Kandy

The next day, after having breakfast we got ready to visit the tea plantations near Nuwara Eliya. We got a chance to walk through the pristine tea gardens and experience first hand, the tea picking process in Sri Lanka.

Afterwards, we checked out of Nuwara Eliya at 11 am and drove to Kandy. On our way, we bought some ayurvedic remedies that are known in vedic science to have healing powers. We arrived in Kandy at 2 pm and checked into the Winter Villa, Kandy.

Without taking much of a break, we began our sightseeing tour of Kandy. On the short tour, we got a chance to visit a few interesting places like the Temple of the Tooth Relic and the Botanical Gardens. We returned to the hotel for the night around 6 pm.

Day 5: Meeting elephants at Pinnawala Sactuary

Here’s An Ideal 8D/7N Itinerary For A Family Trip To Sri Lanka

This was the most interesting day on our trip to Sri Lanka. We checked out of Kandy at 10 am and headed to Colombo. On our way to Colombo, we stopped by at a brilliant place called The Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. An elephant sanctuary build to protect, raise, and promote the welfare of elephants.

A touching moment on our trip, as we were told of how some of these elephants were rescued from poachers and raised here by the volunteers. We were given a chance to feed and meet the friendly giants. Later on, we arrived in Colombo at 1 pm.

After arriving in Colombo, we checked into the GSH Colombo and immediately proceeded for a sightseeing tour. On the tour we covered the Galle fortress, Kelaniya and Gangarama temple, and Independence square. The tour finished at 7 pm and after that we returned to our hotel and called it a night.

Day 6: Jet setting back to Delhi

The final day of our trip to Sri Lanka was upon us. We checked out of the hotel early in the morning and departed for the hotel via cab. With a flight to New Delhi, we said goodbye to the warm and welcoming Sri Lanka.

It was a beautifully planned trip to Sri Lanka. We enjoyed a lot with each other and the credit goes to Travel Triangle who helped us in making the itinerary and planning a cheap trip. This journey was a vacation and a pilgrimage both which helped us understand the culture and history Sri Lanka.

High Points:

  • Visiting the lush green tea plantations in Sri Lanka.
  • Covering the Ramayana trail like a keen history student.

Low Points:

  • Finding a variety of food which is similar to our taste was difficult.
