I am a passionate traveler and I like to explore new places to see how different they are from the previous one. I believe we live in a world where there is so much to explore in a very limited time. I was glad I was accompanied by a friend of mine who loves travelling as much as I do.
The idea was to pick a location where I could get to witness landmarks of our rich Indian history, while also getting way from this scorching heat. Hence, we decided that Shimla was the ideal destinations to visit. It was also the perfect opportunity for me to experience a ride on the delightful Kalka-Shimla rail link.
I stumbled upon TravelTriangle’s Facebook ad and thought I should give it a try. A visit to the historical attractions was the major reason I chose Shimla over other hill towns in Himachal. And true to its promise, our trip enchanted us with a deep insight into that bygone era. We had first visited the All India Institute of Advanced Studies, a place where many groundbreaking decisions had been made during the colonial rule, along with the one to separate India from Pakistan in 1947. That feeling of having witnessed that iconic Round Table where it all happened can’t be put down in words! Apart from its historic significance, even the architecture of AIIAS is mind blowing.
Other places we visited were the Christ Church and Town Hall, prominent legacies of the British Raj. A beautiful marvel of British architecture, Christ Church has been built in a way that it beams at tourists standing miles away. We were absolutely awestruck at the magnificence of this second largest church in North India. The Town Hall was equally overpowering. The distinct British architecture of the building makes it stand out from all the ones around it. The quaint structure struck in us a deep nostalgia that we unable to justify.
Cafes in Shimla: Quick escapes for some delicious treats
There are some really adorable cafes in every corner of Shimla, especially The Ridge, where visitors can take a respite and chill. Foodie or not, every traveler ought to check these out on their trip to Shimla. During our getaway we took the chance to visit Café Sol, a popular cafe in Shimla to eat or hangout with friends. Out of their amazing fare, we tried the brownies with ice cream and pizza, both of which were absolutely delicious.

We also went to Embassy, one of the oldest and quirkiest coffee shops in Shimla. We tried one of their finest cakes along with some cookies and shakes. Other than these, Shimla has many more roadside café’s where you can sit back and enjoy. Alas, we couldn’t check them all out on our short trip.
The Ridge: Stunning views of the quaint hill town
This is one amazing spot in Mall Road that provides panoramic views of the misty mountain ranges and green valleys dotted with colourful houses. Stealing such awesome views of the town was one of the best experiences I had on my Shimla holiday. It seems, that breathtaking sunset and the sparkling night view of Shimla we witnessed here are now engraved in our memories for life!
