Weather Of Sikkim In April

The most incredible part of the whole trip was the weather. There was snow, yet not so cold as I was travelling with my son who is less than 2 years, so this was indeed the most important thing. There was a lot of sunshine. It was spring when we traveled so we got the valley full of the purple flowers. The whole state has water bodies along the road! We got a glimpse of the sikkim rain as well on the last day. It was like a whole year crunched into a week, weather wise. We have never enjoyed so many different climates together like this.

Changu Lake Excursion

We were extremely excited for the entire trip and the first day was full of curiosities. Our plan for the was a full-day excursion to Tshangu or Changu Lake in Sikkim. This is a gorgeous and splendid glacial lake that sits in its all glory amidst snow-capped mountains. We started the excursion soon after a delicious breakfast. The distance is partly covered by a drive which offers wonderful views on the way. The final distance to the lake was covered on foot. Being a glacial lake, Changu Lake was formed by the accumulation of the melting ice water from the surrounding mountains. There is a river called Lungtze Chu that originated from this lake and combines with Rangpo-chu downstream. Changu Lake also has some religious significance in the past. The Lamas used to predict the future with the colour of the lake. A dark coloured lake indicated a year full of problems. There is a unique vibe that surrounds this beautiful lake in Sikkim.

After this we visited Baba Mandir which is originally known as Baba Harbhajan Singh Temple. The temple is dedicated to Saint Baba Harbhajan Singh and is built as a memorial to honour soldiers of the Indian Army. This is one of the best places to visit in Sikkim.

Lachung is a wonderful mountain village in Sikkim which lies very close to the Tibetan Border. The village is set is one of the most picturesque surroundings of the North Sikkim district. Situated at an elevation of 9,600 feet (3,000 meters) above sea level, and at the meeting point of the major rivers – Lachen River and Lachung River. The geographical location of Lachen has gifted it abundance of natural beauty. The sight is dominated by huge snow-capped mountains, gushing waterfalls, and serene river-streams. There are also apple orchards in the region, which is a rare site for the city dwellers.

On the way, we also visited the Butterfly Waterfalls, known as Puttali Jharna. The sight of white water rushing down the rocky surface surrounded by greenery is simply refreshing. We also visited the Kanchenjunga View Point, from where the view of the third highest mountain in the world was simply breathtaking.

Our plan for this day was visiting the beautiful Yumthang Valley. We started early in the morning to reach this picturesque location. Blessed with wide green pastures and surrounded by the Himalayan Mountains, this heavenly valley is located at an altitude of 11,800 feet (3,564 metres) above sea level in the North Sikkim district of Sikkim. Rightly known as the ‘Valley of Flowers’, this is an awesome place which is either covered with snow or with Rhododendron and greenery. While coming back from Yumthang Valley, there is also an option to visit the popular hot spring. This is known for its healing properties.

Our Hotel In Sikkim

Our Hotel, the Twin Spring in Gangtok had the biggest rooms ever! Much needed after a day’s travel for a toddler to move around. In Lachung the hotel Katau Road House was small but cozy! For the cool weather the warmth in the room was amazing. Both the rooms were hygienic and the service provided was customer friendly. The staff was super caring and super supportive.

Frequently Asked Questions About Sikkim With Kid

What is the most affordable and useful thing to shop in Sikkim?

Our shopping experience on this Sikkim trip was good. We shopped at MG road and found that he fashion trends here are up to date. One of the best things to buy from here are shoes, as they are simply amazing. They have a wide range of variety in shoes, especially for the smaller foot sizes. They are very affordable as well. Apart from shoes, I bought clothes, windbells, the popular prayer flags and a few other things.

Is Sikkim a good while traveling with a kid, when it comes to food?

The food cost was average and everyone was very welcoming. They all took equal care of my son based on his food preferences. We also had a great food experience in Sikkim. The food was covered within our trip package itself so most of our dining experience was within the hotels we stayed. The food was customizable as per our request. We visited some small roadside hotels to get the authentic feel of the place. We had Momos every time we found stalls.

What all places can be covered on a trip to Sikkim with kid?

We had planned to cover lesser places as we had a toddler with us. But each moment we spent was totally worth it! Yumthang tops my list, because of the snow, the river, the hills around and the valley blooming with flowers! This is one such place which I will cherish my whole life. Changu lake was equally beautiful.
