After a hectic 2016, my family and I were looking forward to a much deserved holiday. The beauty and charm of Kerala was a lucrative option to spend some quality family time together. Day 1: Spicing it up in Munnar!

We arrived in Cochin in the morning via flight, where the driver was present to pick us up. From there, we began our journey to Munnar. On our way, we made a few stops, first of them being the Karadippara view point. To get such a beautiful glimpse on the first day, of the beauty Kerala had in store for us, was amazing.
Next up, we visited a Spice plantation. We were given a tour of the farms and shown all the rare spices and herbs grown in Munnar. Afterwards, we drove to Munnar and arrived at The Leaf Munnar resort in the evening. A quaint and charming resort built on a hill in Munnar was our stop for the night.

Day 2: Panoramic beauty in Munnar
The next day we woke up early at 7am and had breakfast. Afterwards, we got ready for our sightseeing in Munnar. The driver was present at the resort at 9 am to pick us up and begin the second of our family trip to Kerala.
The tour began with short stops at Rose Garden, Photo Point, and Honey tree. Munnar surprised us with a large variety of flora making it a paradise for nature lovers. After lunch at a local restaurant, we proceeded to visit the Mattupetty Dam. My husband and I, almost together, took a deep breath at this place upon our arrival that reiterated how it was just the thing we wanted. A scenic dam built in the middle of the mountains, with soothing view-points. Vacation worth it!
We ended the day with short visits to Echo Point, Tea Museum, Blossom Park. A common theme I noticed in Munnar were all the continuous hills covered with a blanket of tea plants. One of the best things to do in Munnar is to definitely stop at one of these tea plantations and get some pictures clicked. We arrived back at the resort at 7 pm, and called it a night.
Day 3: A sunset to remember in Alleppey
The day began with breakfast and then a check out from Munnar at 9 am to head out for the next destination, Alleppey. After a 5-hour long ride, we arrived at the Kondai Lip Heritage Resort. After receiving a warm welcome, we proceeded for lunch. Post that, we went to the beach for a sunset cruise.
Another day, yet another beautiful sunset. I was almost getting spoilt by all this beauty on our family trip to Kerala. Not getting too carried away, I held hands with my son as we watched the sun go beyond the horizon. The tour ended and we headed back to the resort. After returning, we decided to put our feet up and rest for the night.
Day 4: Stunning backwaters of Alleppey

The next day, we checked out of Kondai Lip and drove to the backwaters of Alleppey to live in houseboat. The most fascinating day on our family trip to Kerala, started as we stepped onto the luxurious houseboat which was waiting for us anchored. As we settled in and got introduced to the boat crew, we began our journey around the backwaters in Kerala.
Witness the beautiful rural landscape, littered with greenery and unspoilt with tourism was a blessing. Initially, I thought we will get bored stuck on a houseboat for 24 hours, but I was proved wrong as we enjoyed spending time with each other in such a surreal landscape. As soon as it got dark, the boat was anchored at a nearby village. With that, we spent the evening anchored having a lovely dinner and eventually sleeping in the houseboat.
Day 5: Beautiful architecture of Cochin
The next morning, the boat arrived back at our starting point and we checked out at 9 am. Next up, we were transferred to Cochin via cab. We arrived at noon, and checked into Blue Water Hotel at Cherai beach.
Not taking too long, we got ready for sightseeing in Cochin. We started with a visit to the Dutch Palace and Jewish Synagogue. The monuments were pretty artistic and well maintained. Post lunch, we did some shopping near Jew Street and ended the day by visiting the Chinese fishing nets. At 7 pm, we returned to the hotel and rested for the night.

We got up early morning on the final day of our family trip to Kerala, and checked out of the hotel. We were transferred to the airport from where we took our flight back to Mumbai.
My son fell in love with Kerala, and didn’t want to go home. I couldn’t really blame him for that. There was a part of me, which also wished for this amazing vacation to last longer. However, we decided to dwell on the positives that came out of this trip as a family. How our bond became stronger, and how we are so lucky to have each other.
