Reach Rishikesh well in time. It is the nearest rail head. From Rishikesh, travel to Gaurikund, the base camp for the trek, via bus or cab.
The trek usually starts with Kedarnath, the most prominent among the five kedars. Sitting at an elevation of 3583 m, Kedarnath is also a part of the Char Dham pilgrimage.
Madhyamadeshwar represent the “middle” or the navel of Shiva. This magnificent temple rests at a height of 3,497 m and is reached after a on-foot trek of 16 kilometres.
Tungnath Mahadev is the highest temple of Lord Shiva, located at a height of 3680 m. Representing the forearms of Lord Shiva, Tungnath is a beauty to trek to amid the Garhwal Himalayas.
Rudranath Mahadev (2,286 m high) represents the face or the throat of Nilkanth Mahadev. One has to trek a moderately challenging distance of 20 km from Gopeshwar Village.
The final step in Panch Kedar trek is Kalpeshwar Temple. Hair locks of Lord Shiva are worshipped here. A small streams flows near the temple, believed to originate from Mahadev’s hair.
Opening and closing dates for Panch Kedar Trek are the first week of May 2025 and sometime in early November respectively. Plan your trip between this duration.
