The Bumdeling Wildlife Sanctuary also contains the previous Kulong Chu Wildlife Sanctuary. It covers a huge area and rises to elevations between 4,900 feet and 20,000 feet. The sanctuary covers up most of Trashiyangtse District, including that of Bumdeling Gewog.<\/p>\n

Established in 1998, it is home to diverse fauna, flora, and scenery which include the Alpine lakes, pastures, pine forests, and the Bumdeling valley. There are more than 300 species of birds in here, along with 42 types of animals and more than 700 plant species as well. It houses the Black Necked Cranes, White Tailed Eagle, Snow Leopard, and the Royal Bengal Tiger. There’s also a huge cluster of butterflies here and their species number in the 200s here. The venue also contains multiple religious and cultural sites. But this is not an isolated sanctuary, located deep in the forests as you will find out that there are more than 3,000 households which stay in the park.<\/p>\n

The reserve is also one of historical and cultural importance too as it includes the Dechen Phodrang Lhakhang, which is one of the scenic monasteries over here. There is also the Singye Dzong here which adds some needed rustic charm to the sanctuary. Bhutan has a varied climate. The best time to visit depends upon which part of the country you currently are. As you go towards the North, you will find that temperatures get really cold during the winters and it begins snowing. Temperatures in the East, where the sanctuary is located, are warmer. As you move south, the temperature becomes more tropical. The best time to visit the Bumdeling Wildlife Sanctuary is from March to October. The months of June till August should be avoided if you plan on trekking as it’s the monsoon season then.<\/p>\n
