On our stay in Jaipur, we also visited the majestic Amer Fort. The Amer perched on top of the mountain looks down upon the beautiful Jaipur, watching as we seesaw on elephant back to see the saffron fields and walls protecting this great city. Accompanied by our tour guide we passed through Ganesh pol and paid homage to deity Kali. A beautiful blend of Moghul and Rajput architecture is the grand Amer, millions of shimmering lights greeted us like the stars in sheesh mahal, following which we saw Aukh mahal and Zeenana and we are reminded of the scenes from Jodha Akbar.<\/p>\n

We also dedicated our day to the city palace with its well preserved royal collection, still a home for the Royals, we are amazed at the size of the silver container carried by the king to carry Ganga on his voyage to England,the beautiful peacock door catches your eye and the royal robes of one of the kings will blow your mind. We also planned our drive to Jaigarh fort, we made a pit stop at Jal Mahal and Albert Hall. Jaigarh is the home to the world’s largest cannon and you should be there to hear the story of its first and last use.<\/p>\n

Early morning after a luxurious spa at Indana palace we made our move to the Mehrangarh fort aloft the world\u2019s oldest lift. We were greeted by the Jodhpur RIFF(Rajasthan International Folk Festival). We were amazed by the numerous colors of the RIFF artists, their folklore and varied musical instruments. The courtyard of the fort perched high above the city looks down on the intricate carvings and detailed craftsmanship of the Rajasthani craftsmen. The view from the top of the palace is something you can\u2019t afford to miss and it reminded us of our trip to Santorini in Greece with its white and blue setup.<\/p>\n

The Jaisalmer fort is the only fort which allows people to stay in its own guard. The fort itself is just above average with its renovations and bat-infested lobbies, yet an interesting guide and amusing history can grip the history buff in you. Then we moved to Patwon ki haveli<\/a>, where you can set sight on the life of the Rajsthani traders, we can see the traditional refrigerator, the safest safe and their lifestyle commodities. That evening alongside the brilliant setting sun in the backdrop of the vast desert and fast-moving SUV we passed across the deserted Kuldhara village.<\/p>\n

Our night stay at Le Royale camp was also pretty great. We were greeted as royals with traditional shehnai and aarti. Under the starry sky amidst shimmering lights a performance by Kailashi- A great artist with some brilliant Kartal music and dinner followed by some onstage dance by all of us. The night Safari was the highlight of the tour, very similar to the Dubai dune safari, at the stroke of midnight below the moonlit desert and some ghost stories to follow, sent a chill down our spines.<\/p>\n

Our camel\u2019s name was Salman Khan and he took us aback with its signature stunts and made our morning a pleasant experience. Our camel riders informed us that Pakistan was very close from here. We laid down on the cold desert, glided down its hillocks and captured some great pics across the rising sun. Some banjaras entertained us with some songs and music. After a traditional breakfast, we set off to shop in Jaisalmer.<\/p>\n

Shopping in Rajasthan was truly an amazing experience, and we bought a lot of traditional accessories and clothing from the local market. The low priced traditional shopping at the Indana Palace Shop was what we loved the most. Shopping at the International Folk Festival was a win! The local craftsmen designed intricate jewelry and showpieces. In Jaisalmer, we ended up purchasing mojadi and vintage clothing. We purchased some rare artifacts with its famed fossil glass and some rare dresses like patola, shibori, ker, sangri, ke sari and what not!<\/p>\n
