Singapore will surprise you with its share of wildlife and nature. Some of Garden City’s most unprecedented gems are the hidden vegetation pockets of Bukit Timah Nature Reserve. Begin the exploration of the reserve at the Bukit Timah Hill Visitor Center. Here you can learn more about the species of animals and plants found in the park.\u00a0 There are also a number of museums near Bukit Timah Nature Reserve. The visitor center’s exhibition gallery includes interactive touch screens, forest ecology and tree information, as well as the centerpiece: two majestic replicas of the Sumatran rivers (a tribute to the royal Sumatrans who visited the Reserve).<\/em><\/p>\n

In addition to gallery exhibits, the reserve is also home to many indigenous species, such as long-tailed macaques and several species of birds. The Word of the Wise: Pack a mosquito repellent and do not feed the monkeys.<\/em><\/p>\n

The reserve is home to Singapore’s highest mountain, Bukit Timah Hill. Test yourself by walking on 163-meter-high slopes on wooded trails. The roads are easy to navigate and were renovated in 2016 with new steps, corridors and balustrades. There are different levels of difficulty to explore, depending on whether you want to run or exercise.<\/em><\/p>\n

For those who prefer to explore the skate park rather than on foot, there are also marked bike paths that you can follow. You will find more information on the park trails on this map.<\/em><\/p>\n

The protected area is also connected to the natural reserve of the neighboring central basin.<\/em>
\n The Bukit Timah Nature Reserve is an ideal destination for families. Spend a weekend morning and leave behind the hustle and bustle of the city. Let the children walk in the nature reserve. However, keep in mind that some of the trails leading to Bukit Timah Hill can be difficult. Prepare for the walk accordingly.<\/em><\/p>\n
