Days were pleasant with average temperature around 11 degrees Celsius. When I travelled to Nubra Valley, it was snowing and the panoramic vistas stunned me with its beauty. I witnessed snowfall for 2 hours there. When I started back, there was snow on the roads. The driver was completely prepared according to the weather and the wheels of his car were chained properly. The could feel the flakes of snow over my shoulders like the stars on me, this was one of the most enjoyable moments of my Ladakh solo trip.

5 Best Experiences Of My Solo Trip To Ladakh

My solo trip to Ladakh was one of the best experiences I have had during my entire lifetime. I felt so alive and happy that I can’t even put it in words. Here are 5 of my best experiences from the trip.

1. Pangong Lake

There was no direct route to the stunning Pangong Lake from my stay in Nubra Valley. We went through sand and tracks of passing vehicles. This track passes along the lake. This 20 km journey to Pangong Lake took an hour or more. I was captivated by the surrounding ambiance of this beautiful lake. I was informed that on the other side of the lake is China and the border is not very far.

I was carrying enough clothing according to the weather but could feel cold at night in Pangong Lake . There was continuous power even in the remote village of Merak thanks to solar power. In my opinion there is still scope for developing more tourist attractions in Ladakh. The food is good and not very costly here. They have to bring food items from Leh to remote locations in Pangong lake area where there is only a weekly bus.

The local people are not spoilt by the city couture and were very hospitable here. In fact when I asked for some sandwiches at my stay, they provided large quantity of the delicious ones!

Trip To Ladakh With Family Soon? Diskit Monastery

I also visited Diskit Monastery in the Nubra Valley. This oldest Buddhist monastery in Nubra Valley is also popular as Diskit Gompa. This monastery belongs to the Yellow Hat sect of the Tibetan Buddhism and was established by Changzeb Tserab Zangpo in the 14th century. I also visited the nearby Lachung Temple and Hundur Monastery. The entire surrounding created the mystic ambiance where I could revive my soul.

3. Nubra Valley

After my stay in Leh, I left for Nubra Valley after having breakfast at the hotel. The route to Nubra Valley passes through Khardungla Pass the highest pass at 18000 feet .The bike ride was enjoyable to the valley. There was snow on the mountains it was all white all around. Conveys of army trucks were passing through through this route.
I stopped at Nubra Valley. It is a beautiful sand dune in the river bed. There were many joy rides. I enjoyed Scooter and camel rides here. On the way back, I visited the Dikshit monastery, located on a hill top which is visible from many kms away.

12 Astounding Spots For Trekking In Ladakh That Need To Be On Every Hiker’s Bucket List In 2022

4. Leh

The Leh town was not crowded and I could move freely without restrictions. I liked exploring this place and preferred going for evening walks while staying here. I found many shops in the local market, renting out motorbikes. All the bikes were in good condition and I hired one for myself. I saw many youth moving on two wheelers even to Nubra valley in rain. The bike charged INR 1400 per day. I liked checking out the local market here and shopped a few memories back home.

5. Khardungla Pass

Khardungla Pass is the highest pass in Ladakh, located at 18000 feet altitude. The ride was enjoyable to Khardungla Pass. The mountains were covered with snow, adding beauty to this serene environment. I enjoyed a few hours here before heading to my hotel. I believe that the beauty of Ladakh can not be expressed in words. One must surely visit this place, once in a lifetime.

I had no regrets on the timing or travel plans. In my opinion there is still scope for developing more tourist attractions in Ladakh. On the whole I liked every moment of my Ladakh trip. Looking forward to revisiting the place either with my family or friends. My travel went exactly as per plan and I returned on 7th day via Delhi. I went to Leh palace on my own. It is worth seeing and is located behind the Leh market.

Visit These 19 Monasteries In Ladakh For A Purifying Experience In 2022

Hotels In Ladakh

During my solo trip to Ladakh, I stayed at the Hotel Kidar for 4 days, and for 1 day each at The Wooden Nest and Himalayan Wooden Cottage. On my arrival at Leh, I had to wait for some time as I reached early. The hotel manager at the desk was very courteous and asked me to have breakfast till the room gets ready. By the time I returned the room was ready. I had a 4 night stay in the same hotel out of my 6 days vacation. The room was quite clean and tidy. The hotel had an alluring flower garden and they were preparing for the kitchen garden. The staff were gratifying and took care of all needs.

I had one day stay in between in Nubia valley in wooden nest cottage and one night in peaceful home stay in ponging Merak on lakeside. In the nubra valley cottage, a stream was flowing right in front of my room. There was a nice walking bridge across the stream and net on it to prevent people spitting in it.

In my last home stay, I had a companionship of two different families. We ate together. It was very cold in the home stay. We were provided enough clothing to keep us warm. With in 200 m was the lake. I went to the lakefront and enjoyed watching the waterfront and calmness.

Food In Ladakh

I used to go out in the evenings for shopping and snacks at local restaurants. I also tasted Tibetan tea on way to Pangong lake. I loved walking to the market to enjoy the feel of the place. I had a samosa and tea in a small shop in the market area. I think it was Gupta tea. It was very enjoyable. I found that it had been visited by many national leaders. Though the space was small, the taste was excellent. I visited this stall every day of my stay in Leh for tea and evening snacks. There are many restaurants en route to both Nubra Valley and Pangong Lake to buying food and drinks.

Shopping In Ladakh

The local market in Leh had many shops selling pashmina shawls and many Tibetan curio shops. I did buy a few scarfs of my grandchildren. At one end of the market there were locals selling dry fruits. I bought some dry fruits and apricot for my consumption during my stay.

What To Pack For Ladakh

Inner thermal wear

A fleece jacket

A windproof jacket

Heavy woollens

Woollen socks

A pair of warm shoes

Comfortable pants

1-2 caps

Sunglasses

Leh Ladakh With Kid: A Journey We’ll Cherish For A Lifetime

Dos And Don’ts In Ladakh

Dos

Carry a water bottle with you at all times and refill it as many times as you want.

Check the weather conditions and get a better idea of what you should pack.

Try carrying snacks and energy drinks and stay hydrated at all times.

Keep the necessary first-aid handy.

Don’ts

Don’t wear anything that is way too revealing especially when you are visiting Monasteries or Gompas.

Don’t smoke or take alcohol during the initial days of your trip.

Plastic bags are banned in Ladakh, so try not carrying them.

Don’t litter.
