Pongala is a major festival celebrated in the temple during the month of Vrischikam (November\/December), during which the devotees gather in huge numbers. Women devotees bring coconut, jaggery and rice with round earthen pots for cooking. The Chief Priest then lights the divine fire inside the sanctum so that the women can cook.
