\nNestled on the slopes of a hill along Senapati Bapat Road in Pune, Maharashtra, the Chaturshringi Mandir (also spelt as Chaturshrungi Temple) is a Hindu shrine that exudes both spiritual significance and architectural grandeur. Its name, derived from the four peaks that resemble a crown, pays homage to the Goddess Chattushringi.<\/p>\n

The grand structure of Chaturshringi temple is a sight to behold for both devotees and visitors. The journey to the sanctum sanctorum is a spiritual ascent, each step symbolising a step closer to the divine. The temple complex also includes shrines dedicated to Goddess Durga and Lord Ganesh and eight miniature idols of Ashtavinayaka placed on separate hillocks.<\/p>\n

\nApproximately 250 years ago, during the reign of the Maratha king Shivaji, a wealthy merchant named Durlabhsheth Pitambardas Mahajan owned this sacred Shri Chaturshringi temple. His unwavering devotion to Devi Saptashrungi led him on regular pilgrimages to the distant Vani temple (located near Nasik) every full moon day of Chaitra. However, as old age caught up, he could no longer undertake the arduous journey. Overwhelmed with grief, Durlabhsheth turned to Devi Saptashrungi in prayer. The goddess appeared before him in a divine dream, giving him a specific directive: He was to venture to a mountain in the North-West of Pune. Guided by her words, Durlabhsheth set off on a spiritual odyssey.<\/p>\n

Upon reaching the mountain, Durlabhsheth was astounded to find the statue of the goddess\u2014 Swayambhu Devi, the Chaturshringi Mata. Filled with profound gratitude and reverence, he established a temple at this sacred spot. This temple on the hill along Senapati Bapat Road is now renowned as the Chaturshringi temple. The primary deity worshipped at the Shri Chaturshringi temple is Goddess Chattushringi, also revered as Goddess Ambareshwari. She graces the temple and watches over the entire city of Pune. Devotees climb over 200 steps to seek her blessings. Within the temple complex, additional sanctuaries are dedicated to Goddess Durga and Lord Ganesh, along with eight miniature idols of Ashtavinayaka situated on separate hillocks.<\/p>\n
