In the 13th Century, when the Vijayanagara Empire used to rule the southern part of India, the splendid Puliyarmala Jain Temple was constructed. The Puliyarmala Jain Temple served as a significant Jain centre during the peak of Jainism. It also served as a centre of worship when Shaivism and Vaishnaism flourished. People also recognize this temple as \u201cTipu Fort\u201d as Tipu Sultan used the temple premises to store his guns and ammunition. Initially, the temple was situated in Puliyarmala, but in 1931 things changed when the management of the temple was handed over to Manadappa Gowder who decided to shift the temple to Kalpetta.<\/p>\n

The Puliyarmala Jain Temple is located on a small hilltop surrounded by lush greenery and coffee plantations. The temple’s construction was inspired by Dravidian Architecture which is attributed to shorter and pyramidal structures where the north side has taller towers that usually curve inside as they rise. As you cross the entrance gate, you will find the beautifully painted and carved stupa, which will attract any tourists’ attention. The other attractions are a Lord Mahavir idol at the entrance and 20 other Jain idols at the main shrine.<\/p>\n
