The artificial lake, Fateh Sagar Lake Udaipur, was first built in 1678 AD by Maharaja Jai Singh and back then it was called Diwali ka Talaab as it was built close to the Devali village. When the dam supplying water to the lake was washed away in the floods, it was reconstructed by Maharana Fateh Singh who reigned between 1884 AD and 1930 AD. After the visit of the Duke of Connaught, the Connaught Dam was built and the lake was renamed Fateh Sagar Lake.
