This was the summer retreat of Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV, and as a mark of respect to the king, it is also known as Sri Krishnarajendra Hill Station. Kemmannugundi (or Kemmanagundi) derives its name from three Kannada words – Kempu (red), mannu (soil) and gundi (pit).<\/p>\n

Kemmannugundi was established as the summer retreat of Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV. He later donated this resort to the Government of Karnataka. The Horticultural Department of Karnataka now develops and maintains the resort and its surroundings.<\/p>\n

Baba Budangiri (Baba Budan hill), also known as Chandra Drona (meaning Moon guide, as the range naturally forms the shape of a crescent moon), is a hill and mountain range in the Western Ghats of India, located in the Chikkamagaluru district of Karnataka. The range is known for its extensive coffee plantations, one of the earliest and most comprehensive in India, said to have been started by the Sufi saint Baba Budan, who is believed to be the first person to have brought coffee to the country by smuggling them out of Mocha, Yemen.
