Many legal practitioners and their clerks live in Ram Nagar. In 1914, a group of lawyers headed by KS Arthanareeswara Aiyer requested the then-collector of Coimbatore to grant them land to build their homes. A part of the agricultural land was allocated to the lawyers and the clerks\u2014subdivided into plots of 25 cents for the lawyers and 12 cents for their clerks.<\/p>\n

In 1928, 85 cents of the land belonging to Dewan Bahadur Sri Muthu Ramaswamy Kalingarayar was acquired to build a temple. After a few years, construction started in 1933, and the temple was called Ramar Temple. The locality Ram Nagar got its name from the temple only.<\/p>\n
