Parimahal was built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan\u2019s elder son, Prince Dara Shikoh in the year 1650 A.D. It is said that Dara Shikoh built Parimahal for his wife \u2018Begum Pari\u2019, hence the palace got its name. Prince Dara Shikoh initially used Parimahal as his residence and a library. Later, it was converted into an observatory by Mulla Shah, Dara Shikoh\u2019s teacher, to provide lessons on astrology and astronomy. It is also believed that Parimahal was the exact location where Prince Dara Shikoh was killed by his younger brother, Aurangzeb, to gain power in the Mughal kingdom.<\/p>\n
