The most important temple in <\/span>Pushkar <\/span><\/a>is the Brahma Temple, which dates back to the 14th century. Vishvamitra built this temple, and Adi Sankara renovated it. As per the Padma Purana, Lord Brahma killed a demon named Vajranabha using a lotus flower. When he did this, three petals from the lotus fell to the ground, creating the three sacred lakes of Jyestha Pushkar, Madhya Pushkar, and Kanishta Pushkar.<\/span><\/p>\n

Later, Brahma came to Jyestha Pushkar to perform a yajna, a holy ritual. Since his wife, Savitri, wasn\u2019t present, he married a local girl named Gayatri with the help of Lord Indra to complete the ritual. When Savitri arrived and saw this, she became angry and cursed Brahma, never to be worshipped anywhere else.
