Ravi Bansal talks about his trip to Kerala that he took with his wife, brother, sister in law, and their kids. He describes their amazing natural experience in the beautiful green state and tells us why it is the perfect destination for a family trip. We wanted to go Kerala for a long time for we had heard a lot about its beauty and natural ambience. So finally when the opportunity came, my brother and I decided to go there with our wives and kids.

Day 1: Munnar – The natural paradise of Kerala

Finally, the day came for our holiday and with excitement, we boarded our flight from New Delhi to Cochin. We reached the airport in the afternoon and found the driver was already waiting for us. And soon we were en-route to Munnar enjoying the sightseeing on the way.

Our excitement level was elevated as soon as we saw the scenic views on the way. It was a nice journey and we really loved the natural ambiance of Kerala.

On our way, we stopped at a few places including the spice plantation and a herb garden. The herb garden was an interesting place and the guide showed and explained about the many herbs we saw there. It was really informative especially for both the kids and adults.

We also enjoyed an elephant ride there and the kids loved it! Later on, we proceeded to our main destination – Munnar and reached our resort – ‘Broad Bean Resort & Spa’.

Our first reaction on seeing the resort was complete disbelief since we had never seen a hotel buried deep in the woods. We were spellbound by its amazing location amidst the mountains and greenery.

Happily, we settled into our beautiful rooms and then set off to explore the incredible resort. We had a good time boating there and later at the swimming pool. It was a fun experience!

Day 2: Munnar – Sightseeing and other attractions!

Post breakfast on the second day, we set off for the flower garden in Munnar. It was a beautiful place and we loved colourful ambience all around. We got to know a lot about different types of flowers and also since it was raining, everything looked even more beautiful.

We also saw the Mattupetty dam and were filled with wonder on seeing the majestic dam. Post this, we visited the local market there and had a good time getting to know about the traditions and culture of the place.

We returned to our hotel in the evening and enjoyed our second dose of boating this time. Our evening was spent in playing games, we had a perfect family bonding session, just what anyone would want on a trip with their loved ones.

Day 3: Thekkady – A boat ride through the forest

The third day wwas reserved for Thekkady and we were to explore this charming place famous for its natural beauty. And so post a delicious breakfast at the hotel, we checked out and proceeded for our journey to Thekkady. It was a short drive and we reached there at 12 in the afternoon.

After checking in at the hotel, we had a jungle safari scheduled for 2:30 PM. This was the last slot and we were really excited about it.

The safari involved us sailing on a boat in the Periyar river surrounded by forest all around. It was a very scenic and natural experience and we spotted many wild animals including the deer, elephants and many more. We also spotted many colourful and exotic birds. Post the tour, we returned to our hotel, happy but tired from all the activities.

Day 4: Alleppey – Relaxing and calming houseboat stay

This day was scheduled for a houseboat stay as per our Kerala tour itinerary. So after a quick breakfast, our driver picked us up for a drop to Alleppey where we were supposed to be doing the backwater ride.

We reached Alleppey houseboat area in the morning at 11 AM and then proceeded towards our pre-booked houseboat.

The houseboat took us to an island and in the middle of a lake and having lunch there was a fascinating experience. Later on, we proceeded for the backwaters tour and we loved the serenity and the majestic views that it offered. Everything was so lush and green, it looked perfect!

In the evening, they took us back to the same island and we had a few snacks amidst nature.

In the night, there was festive ambiance all around and we were served dinner amidst music and laughter. We also watched a movie there and it was a spectacular feeling doing all of this in the middle of an island surrounded by the forest.

Day 5: Last episode in Kerala, the beach!

This was the final day of our Kerala trip and after breakfast, the driver picked us up around 9 AM and took us to a nearby beach. We were amazed by the surreal beauty of this place and it was very refreshing to spend our final day there.

Also, it felt great to see the kids enjoy so much and we all too felt rejuvenated. Later on, we had a delicious lunch post which we proceeded to the airport for our flight.

Kerala proved to be an amazing holiday destination for us and we were literally awe-struck by its beautiful scenic views and lush green environment and, not to miss the pleasant weather added to the experience. We spent quality time with our family and loved every bit of this beautiful state. It was truly a heavenly experience.

High Points:

Low Points: There was no customization for the meals at the houseboat and we had to eat what they offered to us. Moreover, we did not like the staff as well.

Tips for future travelers: The Broad Bean Resort was an amazing experience and one should definitely stay there.
