About Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary in Munnar

If you are a nature lover, flock to the scenic and majestic Chinnar wildlife sanctuary where there are a variety of high sholas, dry deciduous forests, and some grasslands. When you visit this wildlife sanctuary you will get to view the multitude of animal species like spotted deer, elephants, hanuman langur, peacocks, sambar and much more. You will also get to view a variety of plant species that are of ecological, floral, cultural and geomorphologic significance.

A must see attraction in this unique thorny scrub forest is the endangered Giant Grizzled Squirrel of India which are just about 200 in number. Take in the beautiful scenery while walking around this sanctuary located in the rain shadow area of the Western Ghats. There are several activities you can indulge in here like trekking to the cultural site, river trekking, a trek to the Thoovanam falls, nature trail to the watchtower, a medicinal garden, tree house at Chinnar and camping at Vasyappara. The best time to visit this wildlife sanctuary is from December to April when the weather stays cool and enjoyable, making it perfect for nature walks. So, pack your bags and plan a visit to this beautiful wildlife sanctuary to see nature at its best in God’s own country!

nce for water cruise and overnight staying in the boat, but somewhat subpar in terms of absence of glitz, paucity of dining options, saltwater supply in bathrooms etc. Do not wish that this feedback be passed to houseboat operators, it is what it is and traveller should understand what they are getting into, that is look beyond how it is marketed. Need to appreciate that after buying the package, not an extra penny was asked anywhere. Do not sleep during the drives from Kochi to Munnar, to Thekkady, to Allepey- or you will miss beautiful forest and mountain scenery!
