Literally translated, Sonamarg is a meadow of gold. Located at around 2730 meters from the sea level, Sonamarg is set against the backdrop of snow clad mountains. It is named the meadow of gold because in the spring season the valley comes alive with golden hued flowers. Like Gulmarg, Sonamarg also attracts the adventure enthusiasts. There are several outdoor activities to enjoy including trekking and hiking. There are several lakes and passes found in this area. Sonamarg is also the base camp for those heading to Amarnath. The region is well known for its religious shrines including gurudwaras, temples, monasteries and shrines. The most notable temples here are the Shiva temple and Zeyarat Baba Reshi located at Tangmarg. Baba Reshi Shrine
Dedicated to the renowned Muslim scholar and saint Baba Reshi, the Baba Reshi Shrine is built in Mughal and Persian architectural style and has beautiful wooden art works within. The shrine is situated in a landscaped garden and can be reached via sledges, horses and field chutes.

Gulmarg is also home to one of the world’s highest golf courses, which is managed and maintained by the Jammu & Kashmir Tourism Development Corporation. Temporary membership for a day is available. Ningle Nallah
Located at about 10 km from Gulmarg, Ningle Nallah refers to a fresh water frolicking stream that is fed from the melting ice of the Apharwat peak and the Alpather Lake. The stream finally meets the River Jhelum. The grassy pastures around the stream are an ideal venue for picnic. You can also spend some time relaxing amidst the blooming flowers, snow-capped mountains and pine forests. Alpather Lake
Nestled at a height of 4511 metres, at the foot of the Apharwat peak, the Alpather Lake has clear waters. Triangular in shape and set against the backdrop of snow-covered mountains, the lake presents a picturesque site. Horse riding activity is also popular here. You can also climb the ridge of the Apharwat peak and then hike down to the other side. Drung
This is an ideal venue for picnics and other activities such as trout fishing and rock climbing. There is also a temple that you can visit. A short trek from Drung will take you to the ruins of temples that are said to have been constructed by the Pandavas of Mahabharata epic. The main attraction in Gulmarg is the gondola which runs up to 3995 meters. There are two stages of the Gondola ride: stage one and stage two. Located at an elevation of 1876 m in the Pir Panjal Range at the foot of the Banihal Pass, Verinag refers to a spring which originates from Nila Nag. There is a garden here that was constructed by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. The water of the spring is warm and clear and is said to have curative powers. Colorful flowers and pine trees add to the beauty of the peaceful surrounds.
