Places To SeeRoman Catholic Church
Known as the Church of Our Lady of Piety, it bears testimony to the unique architectural style of the Portuguese who settled in Silvassa. Set near the famous Tribal Museum, the church is one of the most ancient churches in the city. The outer arches match harmoniously with the beautifully crafted interiors. A part of the church was damaged some years ago during the monsoons but has been renovated.
The Tribal Cultural Museum
As the name suggests, the museum houses exhibits, interactive displays and artefacts that are related to the tribes that inhabit this region. At the entrance, you will be greeted by beautiful handmade torans or garlands, which are typical of the area. The courtyards show realistic tribal mannequins doing winnowing. You are required to take off your shoes to enter the exhibition rooms. These rooms showcase the exotic ornaments worn by men and women, hunting and agricultural tools as well as the musical instruments used by the tribal people.
The dam is built on the River Damini Ganga. The construction of the dam has led to the formation of various water bodies in Dudhani area where you can enjoy several water sports such as kayaking, canoeing and aqua biking. You can also set up camps on the site of the dam. The site has facilities for cooking.
Things To Do
Dudhni is a water sports complex formed on a water front of the River Damani Ganga. Set amidst the scenic Western Ghats, the complex offers equipment for a range of water sports including water scooters, canoes, rowing boats, speed boats, kayaks and jet skis. There are also some great trekking options in the surrounding forest. Camping facilities, accommodation and restaurants are also available in and around the complex.
This is a tribal village located on the banks of the Madhuban Dam on river Damanganga. Surrounded by lush forests, green valleys and scenic ranges of the Western Ghats, Kauncha is a typical tribal village populated with ancient tribes who still live in close harmony with nature. You can see the people carry out their daily activities, practicing agriculture and spending their free time creating amazing art works and music and dance.
Satmaliya Deer Park
The deer park, located on the Khanvel-Silvassa road, houses several kinds of deer species such as spotted deer, chinkara, black buck, and the four-horned antelope. The park is spread across seven plateaus and has a lake and lush green vegetation. Jeep safaris are also available to explore the various aspects of the park.
The town is located about 20 kilometres from Silvassa and the drive itself will prepare you for the stunning beauty that awaits you in Khanvel. Stately trees and quaint tribal villages define the forest-covered hills. In Khanvel, you can rejuvenate amidst a spectacular landscape consisting of mountains, sparkling rivers, and thick forests. The place also attracts different types of birds and you can catch a glimpse of bats, barbets, flycatchers among others. There is also a deer park and a cactus garden that you can see, besides some pastoral cottages on the river banks.
Vasona Lion Safari
The safari is spread across 92 hectares and is part of the Dadra & Nagar Haveli Wildlife Sanctuary. The park was set up to protect the endangered Asiatic Lion which were transported here from Gir Sanctuary. There is a three kilometre road in the park which is meant for jeep safaris.
The lake serves as an impressive recreational complex complete with paddle boats, thatched huts, pastoral style bridges and bubble fountains. The water body has been used to film several Bollywood songs and is popular with couples and honeymooners. It is also much favored by the health freaks who can be seen jogging and exercising amidst fresh and serene surroundings.
