About Horsley hills

Horsley Hills is a well known hill resort located at a distance of 144 km from Tirupati, the sacred pilgrim centre in Andhra Pradesh. Situated at an altitude of 1265m the hill station is inundated with verdant vegetation like Eucalyptus, Jacaranda, Allamanda, and Gulmohar among various other species. Horsley Hills is one of the favourite destinations for people inhabiting Bangalore owing to a favourable climate and exuberant locales. Punganoor cows famous for low appetite and high yielding milk capacity are provided breeding by the Chenchu tribes who live in this region. The initial name of the place was Yenugu Mallamma Konda. The historical legends state that there was a girl named Mallamma who was taken care of by elephants and she was engaged into healing people on the hills. Later she disappeared and people assumed her to be a Goddess and built temple in her fond memory.
The current name is coined after a British officer named W. D. Horsley, the Collector of Cuddapah district. He was impressed by its ethereal beauty and chose it as his summer residence.
CONNECTIVITY TO HORSLEY HILLS:
The nearest railway station is at Tirupathi and Bangalore which are situated 160 km and 165km respectively from this area. The railway station at the Madanapalle Road is the nearest station to the Horsley Hills. Taxis and state buses ply regularly to the enchanting hill resort of Horsley Hills.


Hiking and trekking are conducted quite extensively in Horsley Hills. There is a famous boat festival which takes place here in this region in which the preiding deity is adorned with fragrant flowers and is taken on a ride in a boat which is highly decorated with flowers and colourful lighting. The major tourist places in this region happen to be Highview seeing place, Gaalibanda, Lake Gangotri, Environmental park and the Horsley Hills Museum.
Horsley Hills are an entry point to Koundinya Wild life sanctuary. The Mallama Temple attracts huge number of devotees every year. The road to the hills is quite narrow and surroundings are breathtaking. Horsley Hills Museum is also one of the major tourist attractions in this region. A famous Shiva temple located 15 km from the hills is quite revered among the local folks.
With its rich foliage and beautiful scenic locales, Horsley Hills is one of the most under rated hill stations in the country.
