About Chikmagalur

The name Chikamagalur can be interpreted as 'town of younger daughter'. It is an exotic town placed amidst fascinating landscapes in a fertile valley. It is surrounded by coffee plantations quite extensively. The town is an economic and trade hub of Karnataka. The awe-inspiring views and exquisite beautylend a quintessential appeal to the town. It is mentioned in the historical records that Chikamagalur was presented in dowry to the younger daughter ofthe legendary figure Rukmangada , the chief of Sakrepatna.
One chief attraction is Mullain Giri which is the highest peak in Karnataka. Mullain Giri is situated at an average height of 6300ft above sea level. An aesthetic blend of Hoysala and Dravidian style of architecture is the Kondadarama Temple along with Jama Masjid which are one of the major attractions of this town. St. Joseph's Cathedral is a beautiful church with a shell shaped portico. The other significant nearby attractions include 13th century Siddheshwara temple, the grand old cave of Nirvanaswam at Thiruvanahalli and the 17th century Lakshmi Kantha temple.  
CONNECTIVITY TO CHIKAMAGALUR: The nearest railway station is Kadur(40km) and Hassan(60 km). Mangalore is the nearest domestic Airport, which is 170 km away and Bangalore is the nearest international airport, which is 240 km away. State owned bus services connect Chikamangalur to major cities in the State.
ATTRACTIONS IN CHIKAMAGALUR:
-BABA BUDANGIRI PEAK: One of the chief attractions and one of the most visited tourist spot in the town. The peak is located at 28 km from Chikamagalur. Apart from association with a Muslim saint Baba Budan, the place seems to be linked with Hindu God Dattatreya as well. Consequently it is assumed to besanctimonious by both Hindus and Muslims. Baba Budan Giri has an elevation of 1895 m above sea level. Close to it are three caves which are presumed to besanctified by three siddhas.
-Horanadu: Nestled in the picturesque Western Ghats, Horanadu is one of the major tourist destinations in Chikamangalur. This enchanting place is 100km south west of Chikamangalurand an ancient temple of Annapoorneshwari is situated here. Designed in unique manner, the image depicts the Goddess with four hands holding the Shanka, Chakra, Sri Chakra and Gayathrimantra.  Visitors are expected to rejoice in the transcedental beauty of this area.
-Camping is one of the favourite activities in Chikamagalur. Mullayanagari, which is a part of Baba Budan Giri Hill Ranges, is one of the best sites for camping. It is situated 16 km from the Chikmagalur town. Mullayanagari is suitable for trekking as well. One can enjoy the wide diversity of flora and fauna in this area. There is a place called Sitalayanagiri near toMullayanagari where one can get to see an ancient Shiva Temple along with a water source that neither increases or decreases.
-Kudremukh and Kudremukh National Park: 95 km southwest of Chikmagalur town is Kudremukh range, so named because of the peculiar shape of the Kudremukh peak.  the broad hills are chained to one another with deep valley & steep precipices. Situated at 1, 894. 3 meters above sea level, Kudremukh is rich in iron ore deposits.  
-Sringeri is 90 km west of Chikamangalur town and is situated on banks of Tunga, a vedic Peeth established by Sri Adi Shankar. It is famous forVidyaShankara temple.
-Kalasa is 92km south west of Chikamagalur and situated on banks of river Bhadra. It is suurounded by lofty hills of Western Ghats. Located 32 km of Kalasa are thefamous Hanumanagundi Falls. The waterfall has water falling  on to Natural rock formations from a height of 100 feet.
-Kadambi Waterfalls are situated in the Kudremukh National Park.
-Belavadi is located 29 km south east of Chikamangalur and is famous for ornate temple of Veernarayana.
