About Gandhinagar

Gandhinagar is the capital city of Gujarat and a place where tourists are seen all around the year. This city has a lot to offer to its tourists from temples to lush surroundings and magnificently built roads. The city is a home to Akshardham Temple, which is also the biggest temple in the country. The Akshardham Temple in Delhi is a counterpart of this temple as it is managed by the same committee. The city also boasts some of the best national Parks like the Velavadar National Park and Indroda Nature Park. The Children's park in this city is also a prime tourist spot.


Places To See


The Akshardham Temple
This is one of the greatest temples in Gujarat. More than just a place of worship, the temple represents the craftsmanship of the workers who built it. The temple is well known for its architecture, works of art and exhibitions. The main idol here is the Murti of Lord Swaminarayan.

The Mahatma Mandir
The complex is dedicated to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. It has a convention center and can accommodate 5000 people. You can find all sorts of information and literature related to Mahatma Gandhi.

The temple of Shamlaji
The temple is located near Gandhinagar. The main deity of the temple is Sakshi Gopal or Gadadhar. It is one of the rare temples of India where the idols of cows are worshiped. According to the Vaishnavites, Shamlaji is considered as one among the 154 most important pilgrimage sites in India.


Things To Do


The Indroda Dinosaur and Fossil Park
Also known as Indroda Nature Park, the fossil park is located on the bank of Sabarmati River. It is spread across an area of 400 hectares. In fact, the fossil park is considered to be the second largest hatchery of dinosaur eggs in the world. It is also known as 'India's Jurassic Park' and consists of a botanical garden, zoo, and amphitheater. It also has skeletons of many sea mammals including that of the blue whale. The only dinosaur museum in India, it is maintained by Gujarat Ecological Education and Research Foundation (GEER).
Tip: The fossil park also provides facilities for camping.

Sarita Udyan
The garden is a well-known picnic spot among the tourists and has been developed for recreational activities. You can see joggers in the early morning and late evening. People also come here to enjoy a picnic amidst the greenery.

The Adalaj stepwell
Also known as Adalaj Vav in Gujarati, the step well is located about 15 kms from Gandhinagar. Visit the step well to admire its marvelous architecture and intricate carvings. It was built in the year 1499 by Mohammed Begda for Queen Rudabai, the wife of the Vaghela chief, Veer Singh.

The Craftsmen's Village
Located in Pethapur, the craftsmen’s village is situated about 7 kms away from Gandhinagar near the Sabarmati River. It was once famous for Bandhini sarees. Today, wooden printing blocks carved beautifully for hand-printing on sarees are exported to other countries.
