Places To See


The Brahma Kund
The Brahma Kund is a stepped tank showcasing carved sculptures of Hindu deities. Mythology has it that the kund’s water is sacred and they helped King Siddharaj recover from his skin ailment after he was cursed by Ranakdevi. The structure boasts of medieval architecture with steps, small temples, idols and deities that are beautifully carved.

Gandhi Smriti
This is a memorial of Mahatma Gandhi which was established in 1955. It houses a huge collection of books and other items that were used by Mahatma Gandhi. Several books and manuscripts on display provide an interesting insight into his life and times.
Tip: The Gandhi Smriti is the most visited attractions of Bhavnagar and is easily accessible from all parts of the city.

The Nilambaug/Nilambag Palace
This palace is the current residence of members of the royal family and is a five star heritage property in the city. It was built in the year 1859 AD by a German architect. The palace is an interesting blend of various Indian architectural styles.

The Palitana Temples
Considered to be the most sacred pilgrimage site of the Jains, Palitana temples refer to a group of more than 3000 temples set at the top of Shatrunjaya hills. These temples are exquisitely carved in marble. The main temple is dedicated to the 1st tirthankar Lord Adinath (Rishibdeva). The other temples here were built by different generations of Jains over a period of 900 years. Three other major temples worth a mention are Kumarpal, Vimalshah and Sampriti Raja.

The Takhteshwar temple
This temple is located in the heart of the city of Bhavnagar. Built on top of a hill, the temple provides commanding views of the city. It was constructed in 1893 by Takhtsinhji.

The Ganga Devi Mandir
This temple is dedicated to Ganga Devi. Built in 1893, the temple’s special features include chhatri (umbrella), pavilion and a bridge, all of which are in white marble.

The Gaurishankar Lake and Victoria Forest
Spread across 381 hectares of land, this lake area is also called Bor Talav. The lake is an artificial water body that was created in 1872 to serve as a water reservoir. The small forest near the lake is home to a variety of flora and fauna. It also has two nurseries where you can buy plants for gardens.

Piram Bet
This is an island located about 6kms away from Ghogha in Bhavnagar district of Gujarat. The island was created around 3. 5 million years ago and is better known for its diverse forms of life that include many endangered species. It also has many old caves and a ruined fort which was built in 1325.

Barton Library
The library is one of the oldest libraries in Gujarat. This two-storeyed building was built in 1895.

The Veravadar National Park
The park was established in 1976 in the Bhal region of Saurashtra in Bhavnagar. Initially it served as the private grassland of the Maharaja of Bhavnagar and was used for hunting purposes. It is now open to the general public. Visit the park to view a number of animals and birds in their natural habitat including black bucks, jackal, nilgai, wolf, jungle cat, etc.

Gangajalia lake
Located in the heart of Bhavnagar, the picturesque Gangajalia was earlier a dry dump yard. It was later rejuvenated by the authorities. There is also a jogger's park in the area where people can exercise in scenic surroundings.

Ghogha beach
This secluded beach is situated about 20kms from Bhavnagar and is a favorite spot for local trips. With not much to do at this beach, one can just come here if you love the sand and sea and spend some precious time to commune with nature.
