The Valley of Flowers is a high-altitude Himalayan valley and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. During the monsoon season, the valley comes alive with more than 300 known varieties of alpine flowers. The valley floor is carpeted with a riot of colors and against the backdrop of the snow-capped mountains, presents an ethereal sight. The national park is spread across over 87. 5 square kilometers while the main Valley of Flowers is a glacial corridor, five kilometers long and two kilometers wide. Apart from flowers, the valley also houses some endangered animals. Scintillating waterfalls and streams meandering through the valley add to its beauty.
Tip: The best time to visit the Valley of Flowers is from July to August. However, it is advisable to have a contingency plan since this period is also the monsoon time and consistent rains could lead to cancellation of your trek.


Things To Do


Ghangaria
Ghangaria serves as the base camp for the Valley of Flowers trek. This hamlet is located en-route to Gurudwara Hemkund Sahib. In fact, you can also trek your way to Ghangaria from Govindghat. However, the trek is quiet difficult but you can hire mules.

Nanda Devi National Park
Nestled at an altitude of 7817 m, Nanda Devi National Park is located on the north-west side of the Valley of Flowers. Together, with the valley of flowers, the national park forms the Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve.

Gurudwara Hemkund Sahib trek
From Ghangaria, you can head to Hemkund Sahib, an important pilgrimage site for the Sikhs. The gurdwara is situated on the banks of the Hemkund Lake. It is said that the tenth guru of Sikhs mediated here for several years. Visitors can also take in the holy waters of the lake. The trek to the gurdwara is very steep. The other option is to take the mules to reach the holy site.
