Ladakh is a mountainous region in the north-west of J&K, also known as the Trans-Himalaya (the lands beyond the Himalaya Tibet, Xinjiang and northern Pakistan). The spectacularly jagged, arid mountains of Ladakh are what capture the attention of all travelers across the globe. It is the least populated area of Jammu and Kashmir and most of the tourist attractions are located in the eastern part which is dominated by Buddhists. Leh Palace is a former royal palace overlooking the Ladakhi Himalayan town of Leh. Modelled on the Potala Palace in Lhasa, Tibet, the palace was built by King Sengge Namgyal in the 17th century.
