With fortress walls extending over 50 km, Adoni Fort is one of the biggest forts in India. In the fifteenth century, the Vijayanagara Empire used Adoni as a military camp. The sultan of Bijapur seized it following the fall of the Vijayanagara Empire. Adoni remained a mostly autonomous area administered by aristocrats chosen by the sultans of Bijapur. The governor of Adoni, Siddi Masud, added various structures to the fort, including the building of several townships and Jamia Masjid. Siddi Masud had a passion for collecting paintings. Later, the Mughal Empire and the Nizams of Hyderabad seized Adoni. The fort has multiple entrance gates and is surrounded by seven enormous granite hills. It is a collection of 12 sub-forts built over several centuries. Among the sites of interest within the fort premises are Nawab Darbar Hall, Jamia Masjid, Venu Gopala Temple, Malik Rahman Dargah, Shiva Temple, Amba Bhavani Temple, and various water bodies. The majority of the core fort area is in ruins, and the archaeology department needs to work to restore it so that it can draw in a sizable number of visitors. Venu Gopala Temple is a magnificent temple built during the Vijayanagar period on a grand scale with their signature architecture.

Following Tipu Sultan’s defeat, Adoni was ruled by the British and remained a part of the ceded province (Rayalaseema) until it gained independence. The fort is surrounded by seven enormous granite hills and has multiple entrance gates. In reality, the fort is made up of twelve smaller forts that were constructed over several centuries. A few stores are open during the season at Ranamandala Anjaneya Swamy Temple’s entrance.

One of the most well-known attractions is the temple of Lord Hanuman at Ranamandala K bh onda. Ramajal Lake is also located here. There is a notion that this lake was formed as a result of Lord Rama shooting an arrow to supply Goddess Sita water during their exile. Drinking water is also obtained from the lake. Swayambhu Moorthy is the form of the Presiding Deity. As Lord Rama arrived and began to rest, Lord Hanuman stood watch, waging combat against the demons present and ensuring that Lord Rama’s slumber was protected. The word Mandalam signifies place, and Ranam indicates conflict; thus, the name Ranamandala. Despite its elegant construction, the Sanctum Sanctorum lacks a rooftop. Ramajal Lake is also located here. It is thought that during his Days, Saint Vyasa Maharishi visited here. The Temple is only open during the daytime because it is situated on a secluded hillside in the middle of a forest.

Temple Hours: 7 A.M. to 6 P.M.Ranamandala and Chennai are 493 kilometres apart.
