How To Reach Himachal Pradesh

Read about the best & quickest routes to save time & money, as suggested by our travelers

By Air

There are three domestic airports that connect Himachal Pradesh to the rest of the country. These are located at Kullu-Manali, Dharamshala and Shimla. The airports have flights from Himachal Pradesh to Delhi and Chandigarh. You can conveniently travel via air and get down at the airport closest to the cities you wish to visit.

By Train

The kind of rocky terrain that Himachal Pradesh is located on, makes it slightly inconvenient to construct railway tracks. However, with best efforts, a train does run into the state from Pathankot in Punjab. Travelers can drive up to Punjab or take a flight and then take a train to Himachal Pradesh. By train, it takes only about seven and a half hours long. People usually take overnight trains to Himachal so that they reach feeling refreshed. The important railway stations in Himachal are Solan and Una. There is also a toy train available that connects Himachal to Kalka. Opting for a train proves to be great option as they are usually affordable, comfortable, well maintained and a lot more fun than a flight journey.

By Road

The advantage of states situated in the hills is that you can plan a comfortable road trip. The distance from Delhi to Himachal Pradesh by road can be covered in just about 7 hours or maximum 7 and a half hours. The roads are very well maintained and even during the monsoon season, it is safe to drive up to the state, just needs a little caution. Himachal Pradesh is very well connected to the major cities. To reach Himachal by road, you can hire cabs or even take a bus. A bus journey is usually affordable and comfortable too, as the buses stop from time to time and allow people to try out the hill roadside chai and some local delicacies.

Haritha's 5 days trip to Himachal

Overall experience was ok. Can drivers were very clever they divert our minds and our plan by saying nothing is there in that place and we will make u see better places in the same place without much travel risk to you and waste of time. This is their tactic and as per their plan. They make us visit
first the places which takes very long time so that they can make us waste time in that and skip other places. But to finally say my experience was worst as they provide hotels which are so far away from city.

The coordination of travelpedia is good. They were helping each and every step and answered our queries.Niraj Joshi was point of contact from travelpedia. He was doing good job. On day one the bus operator allocated back seat though we booked middle seat.I told Niraj about this then he talked to ope
rator after that bus operator relocated us to front seat. While going to manali we went to through pal travels. The bus seats are okay but the management is not good. They gave least preference to passengers who came though other travel agents. In Manali we got hotel Himalayan Snow Heights ,the hotel is good in terms of food and stay but the location is little inside. The cab driver allocated in Manali whose name Raj Kumar he is okay but he is time constraint .After 5.30 PM he is reluctant to take places which is listed in iternary. On last day we visted kullu. While doing activity we got late. After that we have visited vaishnao devi temple then we went to nagar castle. But then we supposed to visit jana water fall and jagat sukh temple but driver told us it is not same way in other side actually it is in the same way of nagar castle we got to know while talking to other dirver. The driver we got for shimla trip is good . He is friendly and cooperated well. His name is Amit Kumar chouhan(9816246007).He showed us the Jakhu temple which is not listed in our iternary. It is famous temple must visit this if you are in shimla. You should ask this is if it is not included in your iternary. In shimla we got hotel the Moon Lake. The hotel rooms are clean but hotel food is not tasty and hygienic,While taking breakfast we have seen cockroaches are roaming around food.We informed waiters but not no action taken for cleaning.Hotel management is poor.

We really not had a good experience with the driver. The driver was not comfortable at all, he was not putting on the heaters (we had a toddler with us) and said scared us that he feels sleepy if he put on heaters and we asked him to postpone one of the place as it was raining heavily, he refused to
do that. He was more worried about his car and neatness when we are in the car, he was posting few restrictions what to do and what not to in the car which was so irritating. Also the travel agent did not informed us that there will be no snow in sollang valley, so we had to pay more 2000 to the driver for visiting the place where there is snow. Ideally, the travel agent has to plan a plan B option if there is no snow in sollang valley.
