How to Reach Himachal Pradesh

By Air: The major airports are in Kullu (Bhuntar), Dharamshala (Gaggal), and Shimla (Jubbarhatti). Flights are limited but connect to major Indian cities.

By Train: Himachal doesn’t have a widespread railway network. However, the Kalka-Shimla Toy Train is popular ride. The nearest broad-gauge stations are Kalka, Pathankot, and Chandigarh.

By Road: The most common and scenic way to reach Himachal. Volvo buses and private cabs run frequently from Delhi, Chandigarh, and nearby cities. Roads are well-maintained in most regions.

Getting Around in Himachal Pradesh

By Bus: HRTC (Himachal Road Transport Corporation) buses connect major towns and remote villages throughout the state. Comfortable and economical, but sometimes delayed in harsh weather.

By Taxi: Ideal for flexibility and sightseeing. Taxis can be pre-booked or hired locally—negotiate rates beforehand.

By Bike/Scooter: Renting a two-wheeler (especially in Manali or Bir) is popular among adventure lovers and offers freedom to explore at your own pace.

Places to Visit in Himachal Pradesh

Shimla: The charming capital, with colonial architecture, bustling Mall Road, and scenic viewpoints like Jakhu Temple and Kufri.

Manali: A favourite for honeymooners and thrill-seekers. Offers snow activities in Solang Valley and treks to Hampta Pass or Bhrigu Lake.

Dharamshala & McLeod Ganj: The residence of the Dalai Lama. Rich in Tibetan culture, monasteries, cafes, and serene hikes like Triund.

Spiti Valley: A high-altitude cold desert with stark landscapes, ancient monasteries, and villages like Kaza, Tabo, and Key. Best visited in summer.

Kasol & Parvati Valley: A backpacker’s haven. Known for scenic treks, hot springs in Manikaran, and riverside cafes.

Bir Billing: India’s paragliding capital. Also great for meditation retreats and peaceful walks in tea gardens.

Kinnaur: Famous for its apple orchards, Sangla Valley, and the dramatic Kalpa village with views of Kinner Kailash.

Essential Information for Tourists

Permits: Foreign nationals require permits for Spiti and Kinnaur, located near the Indo-Tibet border, which can be arranged in Shimla or Reckong Peo.

Currency: Indian Rupee (INR). Carry cash in remote areas, as ATMs and card payments are limited.

Language: Hindi is widely spoken. English is understood in towns and tourist areas. Learning a few local phrases is always appreciated.

Weather: Always check forecasts. The weather in the mountains can change rapidly. Winters need heavy woollens; summers are mild.

Health: Carry basic medication for altitude sickness and motion sickness, especially when visiting higher regions like Spiti or Rohtang.

Connectivity: Mobile network can be patchy, especially in remote regions. BSNL and Jio work best in such areas.

Safety: Himachal is generally very safe for tourists, including solo travellers. Still, be cautious during treks and always inform someone about your plans.

Rohan's 5 days trip to Himachal

I recently booked a trip through this travel agent. While some parts of the trip were well managed, there were several issues that caused unnecessary stress and extra expenses. The hotels arranged by the agent were very good and comfortable. I am satisfied with that part of the service. However, the driver arranged by the agent appeared to be inexperienced. Because of this, I was told that our car (Swift) could not travel to Solang Valley, and we were forced to hire a local vehicle (Jimmy) for ₹4000. Later, we realized that Swift cars are allowed to travel there, which made this expense feel unnecessary and frustrating. On the positive note , the driver was polite and help us by clicking good photograph of us. Another major issue occurred when we arrived in Delhi from Mumbai. The agent informed us that our bus from Kashmere Gate was scheduled for 10 PM. Based on this, we rushed to reach the location, only to find out that the actual bus timing was 11 PM. Moreover, the bus arrived late at around 12:15 AM. As a couple, waiting late at night in an unfamiliar place felt unsafe and very stressful. We also faced confusion at Kasol regarding the Volvo bus pickup point. The agent was unclear about the exact pickup location, which should have been confirmed and communicated during booking. Thankfully, the second driver informed us correctly that there was no bus leaving Kasol at 6 PM. When I raised this concern with the agent, the response I received was, “Aapne ne bhi kuch pata karana chahiye,” which was highly unprofessional. Customers rely on travel agents for accurate planning and guidance, and such behavior is disappointing, especially after paying for the service. Overall, the hotel arrangements were good, but poor coordination, incorrect information, and unprofessional communication significantly affected our travel experience. I hope the agency improves its planning accuracy and customer handling in the future.

Mota's 6 days trip to Himachal

I travelled to Shimla, Manali, Dalhousie, and Amritsar in January 2026. I booked the package through Travel On Ease via TravelTriangle, and overall it was a good experience. The travel agent, Alisha ma'am, who handled the booking initially, had left the organization, which caused some inconvenience. However, the issue was resolved once Vaishali ma’am was assigned to manage our trip. She followed up regularly and ensured smooth coordination throughout the journey.
