About Kemmanagundi

Kemmanagundi is a beautiful and eclectic hill station located in Krishna Rajendra Hills (KR Hills) of Chickamagalur district in Karnatak. The name is derived from three words Kempu meaning red, Mannu meaning soil and Gundi meaning place. It comprises of beautiful landscaped gardens offering majestic views It is known as Chandra Drona Parvatin Hindu Puranas. Nestled in the hill ranges of Baba Budan Giri which is widely acclaimed  for bearing the Karnataka’s tallest peak Mullayanagiri - Kemmanagundi is a nature lovers & adventure enthusiast's paradise. Since it was the summer retreat of Krishnaraje Wodeyar who was the Maharaja of Mysore, the place has assumed the name of KR Hills. Situated at an elevation of 1434m, Kemmanagundi is an alltime weather favorite getaway. The cool breeze, the thick dense forests, the green terrains, the gurgling of streams and tranquill environment are few of the facets of this fascinating spot. The Royal Horticultural Society of Karnataka has laid its foundationhere. Nature walking, rejoicing with companions in a picnic and spending a relaxed evening on a hillock could be the activities to be carried out at this romantic and serenegetaway. Monsoons lend a transcedental beauty to this greenery infused abode with rain water filling up the waterfalls and the rain kissed thick forests is a sight tobehold. Some of the pleasure filled activities to be enjoyed here are trekking, nature walk or taking a dip in the waterfalls or streams.

HOW TO REACH KEMMANAGUNDI: Nearest railway station is Tarakere which is 15 km from Kemmanagundi and which is coonected by rail to Mangalore and Bangalore.  The nearest domestic Airport is Mangalore, which is 190 km away and Bangalore is the nearest international Airport, which is 295 km away. Private and public transport buses connect frequently to Chikmaglur (55 km), Mangalore(190 km) and Bangalore(295 km)


-HEBBE FALLS: For solitude seekers this fall provides a soothing calmness. As it gushes down from aheight of 168m, it splits half way on a rock faceinto what is called Dodda(big) Hebbe & Chikka(small) Hebbe. The fall is renowned among local folks and tourists alike as it has healing properties especiallyfor cold related diseases.
-KALLAHATI FALLS: The Kalahatti Falls, also known as Kallathigiri falls and Kalahasthi falls. This is a captivating water fall cascading from a height of 122m. An ancient temple built between the rock gaps is assumed to be built under Vijaynagar Empire. Sage Agasthya is also associated with this place. It is highly revered among local folks.
-RAJENDRA HILL: Its magnanimous peaks are surrounded by coffee plantations at a height of 1448m. It is said to be enormously rich in iron ore.
-ROCK GARDEN: has well laid out pathways carved out of rocks and is perched on the hills of Kemmanagundi. It is famous formesmerising sunset view and green vegetation
-ZPOINT: A steep uphill track leads to it and this spectacular spot provides an awesome view of the \sunset.  Z-point also offers a nice ariel view of the distant Shola grasslands in the undulated Western ghats.  
There is a famous shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva in this enchanting spot. The temple is beautifully structured with its main shrinestanding on a platform with deeply cut patterns of solid granite rocks.
