Shivgiri is situated in the north of Babu Budanagiri mounds in the Kadur taluk of Chikmagalur district. It is essentially a dense forest situated above the Yemmedoddi village in Hoggarekangri hills. The region was once ruled by the Hoysalas. Baba Budangiri hills is the place where the first coffee crop was grown during 1670. The popular folk arts of the area include Classical dances and Carnatic music.
