Lakes in Asia

The Baikal Lake in Russia is the deepest in the world. A large number of lakes are a result of landslides like the Lake Sarez in the Pamirs. Lake Wuhua Hai in China, a spectacular lake. In a span of a few meters it changes color from blue to black to yellow to green to black again. Lake Issyk-Kul in Kyrgyzstan is located deep in a valley and gives an amazing view of the snow-covered peaks of Tian Shan Mountains. Tonle Sap in Cambodia is Southeast Asia’s largest freshwater lake. During the monsoons it expands many times its size. Lake Biwa in Japan is famous for the floating temple and Biwako Hana Funsui, the world’s largest fountain. The Aral Sea in the countries Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan is slowly disappearing due to pollution from fertilizer runoff, weapon testing residue left behind by the former Soviet Union.
