About Kalpa

Places To See

Kamru Fort
Majestically set at a height of 2600 m above sea level, on the banks of the Baspa River, Kamru fort is one of the greatest jewels of the Sangla Valley. It is also one of the oldest forts in the state of Himachal Pradesh. There is a temple within the fort and an image of Buddha greets visitors as they enter. The idol of goddess Kamakhya Devi is enshrined on the third floor of the fort. There is another temple, known as Badrinath Temple, which is located nearby. This temple is believed to have been built in the 15th century.
From the fort, you can enjoy the views of the Rackchham, Chitkul and Batseri villages.

Situated on the banks of the Baspa River, Batseri is a scenic village that can only be reached via a bridge built across a stream. Visit the village to walk over the bridge made of cantilevered logs, and see quaint villages, cobbled paths and the Badri Narayan temple. There is a small stupa at the entrance of the village and the belief goes that it protects the people from offenders.

Sapni Fort
The fort is located in Sapni village. Flaunting impressive architecture, the fort has seven floors. A temple dedicated to Goddess Kali is located on the fifth floor. One can witness the commanding views of the mountains and valleys from the fort.

Suicide Point
Situated just 10 minutes away from the beautiful apple gardens in Kalpa, Suicide Point refers to a dangerous stretch of vertical slopes and trenches that are found in this region.

Reckong Peo
Reckong Peo is the capital of the Kinnaur District. Every year the state government hosts one of the four Buddha Mahotsavs and attracts pilgrims from all over the country. Reckong Peo also forms the base camp to trek to Kinnaur. Travelers visiting this place can enjoy the picturesque views of the Kinnaur Kailash Mountain.
Tip: The trek from Reckong Peo to Kinnaur is considered one of the most spectacular ones in the region and takes around 4-5 days to complete.

Kinnaur Kailash Mountain
This noted mountain peak borders the Kinnaur District in the south. Known for its mesmerizing beauty, the peak holds great religious significance for both Hindus and Buddhists.

This is another prominent mountain peak located in the region at an altitude of 15000 ft. Chaka is a famous trekking zone. Going uphill will take you around 2 to 3 hours while the downhill trek takes around 2 hours. Local guides are available to accompany trekkers. The route takes you through a beautiful valley where you can see cattle grazing.

Nature Walks
The Kalpa region is a famous trekking zone in Himachal Pradesh. Apart from trekking, there are several nature trails that you can explore. These trails pass through quiet forests and with the songs of the birds and gentle breezes for company, you will find these nature walks to be an extremely rejuvenating experience.

Sangla Valley
Located at a height of 8900 ft above sea level, Sangla Valley decorates the banks of the Baspa River. Gentle streams winding through hills and meadows add to its refreshing beauty. Apart from hiking, biking, trekking and camping, one can also explore some of the attractions in the region including Rackchham, Kamru Fort, Kilba, Sapni, and the Naga Temple.

Roghi Village
Situated about 18 km from Kalpa, Roghi village is famous for its apple orchards. There are several scenic trails with meandering streams in this area, providing the perfect venue for nature walks. Suicide Point, known for its staggering vertical slopes, is about a five minutes walk from the village.
