Ladakh’s population is Buddhist, with a strong Tibetan influence, and it boasts a rich cultural heritage reflected in its traditional attire, cuisine, dance forms, arts, and festivals. Ladakhi cuisine is influenced by Tibetan flavours using local ingredients suited to the high-altitude climate. Some local dishes you shouldn’t miss include Thukpa, Thenthuk, Skyu, Chhurpi, Butter Tea, Khambir, and Mokthuk. Both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes is readily available at its restaurants and hotels. Some of the famous restaurants in Ladakh include The Tibetan Kitchen, Tsas by Dolkhar, and Lamayuru Restaurant.
How To Reach
By Air: Leh has a small airport with flights primarily from Delhi and several other cities. You can fly to Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport, which connects Leh with cities such as Delhi and Srinagar. This is the most straightforward way to access Ladakh. By Train: The nearest stations are Jammu Tawi and Udhampur. From there, continue by road to Leh. By Road: Drive via Manali (approx. 470 km) or Srinagar (approx. 420 km). Roads are open from May to October, offering scenic views of the surrounding mountains. Tip: Some areas need permits, so plan.

By Air
If you’re looking for the quickest way to reach Ladakh, then you can book a flight to Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport, the only airport in Leh. Many domestic airlines offer regular flights from Delhi, Mumbai, Jammu, Kolkata, and other major cities in India to Leh. One can choose to travel by the airlines as per time and budget. It is important to know that the security checks at this airport are a little stricter than others, so make sure to carry printed copies of your documents to avoid any inconvenience. Ladakh is approximately 8 km farther from Leh Airport and takes only 20 minutes to reach. One should take a taxi from the airport to reach Ladakh.
By Train
There is no railway station in Leh Ladakh. The nearest railway station is Srinagar Railway Station, located at a distance of 424 km from this paradise on earth. Another nearby railway station is Jammu Tawi Railway Station, at a distance of approximately 668 km from Ladakh, and it connects a large network of trains to major Indian cities. One can then book a cab, taxi, or bus to reach Ladakh for a beautiful travel experience.
