How do we reach Manali from Delhi for a 3 nights 4 days trip, Volvo or private cab?
This package uses the overnight Volvo both ways, which most families prefer because no one has to drive the 570 km mountain road. The bus leaves the Delhi Volvo point at 5:30 pm and reaches Manali around 7:00 am, so you sleep through the journey. If you have very young children or elderly parents who need frequent breaks, a private cab can be arranged as an add-on for door-to-door flexibility.
Do we need a Rohtang Pass permit, and what if Rohtang is closed?
Yes. Rohtang needs an online permit and the National Green Tribunal caps entry at 1,000 vehicles a day, so peak dates can fill up. The permit is not in the base price; our team arranges it as part of sightseeing. If Rohtang is closed for snow or full, we swap in Solang Valley for snow-play or the Atal Tunnel to Sissu, both of which need no Rohtang permit.
Is a 3 nights 4 days Manali trip enough and suitable for kids and elderly parents?
Yes. The plan keeps one hotel base in Manali for all 3 nights, does the long travel overnight on the Volvo, and only goes to high altitude on Day 2, with lower-altitude Solang and Atal Tunnel swaps if the pass is too much for the youngest or oldest travellers. The days are paced with rest built in, which is what makes it work for a mixed-age family.
Can we swap Rohtang for Atal Tunnel, Sissu or Solang if travelling with small children?
Yes, and many families do. Solang Valley gives kids snow-play, a ropeway and zorbing without the altitude of Rohtang, and the Atal Tunnel through to Sissu is a short, gentle drive to a Lahaul village with a waterfall and meadow. Tell your trip coordinator and Day 2 is rebuilt around whichever you prefer.
What is the best time to visit Manali with family?
For snow and snow activities, go December to January. For pleasant weather, open passes and the hot springs, March to June is easier. Avoid peak monsoon if you are travelling with elderly parents, as the highway carries landslide risk in those months.
Can we experience snowfall in Manali on this trip?
You can experience fresh snowfall in Manali from roughly October to February, which is also a lovely time for the snow-laden mountain views. In the warmer months snow stays higher up, on Rohtang, Solang Valley and around the Atal Tunnel, which is where Day 2 takes you.
