Day-by-day romantic itinerary

Day 1: Delhi to Dharamshala, arrival and a private welcome

Your honeymoon starts the moment you reach Delhi. Our driver meets you at the airport or railway station and drives you up to Dharamshala, the hill town below the Dhauladhar peaks where the Dalai Lama lives. You reach your hotel by evening and check in, and the rest of the night is yours to unwind after the journey. After breakfast you head out to see McLeodganj and the Kangra side together. On the way you can stop at Baijnath and its thousand-year-old Lord Shiva temple. In town you visit the Tsuglagkhang Complex, the main temple and home of the Dalai Lama, with the Namgyal Monastery alongside, then the church of St John in the Wilderness set among deodar trees, and the Tibetan medical centre. Walk up to the Bhagsu waterfall, sit a while by Dal Lake, and time the late afternoon for sunset from the Naddi viewpoint, one of the prettiest spots for a couple here. Day 3: Scenic drive to Dalhousie and an evening in town

After breakfast you check out and drive to Dalhousie, a scenic run of about 120 to 130 km through the Kangra and Chamba hills that takes four to five hours. Dalhousie is the greener, slower half of this honeymoon. On arrival you check in, then set out to see the town the British laid across five hills. You visit the colonial St John's Church of 1863 and St Francis Church, walk the shops and cafes around Gandhi Chowk and the Mall Road, and take the cedar path at Subhash Baoli, a spring with wide valley views that is quiet enough for two. This is a good evening for a candlelight dinner (on request). Dinner and overnight stay in Dalhousie.

Day 4: Day excursion to Khajjiar, the Mini Switzerland of India

Today you take the short drive to Khajjiar, about 24 km from Dalhousie. It is a wide, saucer-shaped meadow ringed by thick pine and deodar forest, with a small lake and a floating island at its centre and a 9-hole golf course along one edge. Walk the meadow hand in hand, ride a horse across it, or try zorbing and a short paragliding hop at your own cost. On the way you pass through the Kalatop forest, and you can add the calm Chamera Lake for a bit of boating. Late afternoon you drive back to Dalhousie, with the rest of the evening free for the two of you. Dinner and overnight stay in Dalhousie.

Day 5: Departure for Delhi

After a relaxed breakfast you check out of the hotel. Our driver drives you back to the Delhi railway station or airport for your onward journey, and you leave with the first set of memories from married life. Best time for a Dharamshala and Dalhousie honeymoon

April to June brings clear, pleasant days across both towns and is the easiest window for a first trip together, with warm afternoons for sightseeing and cool evenings for a quiet dinner. September to October is the other sweet spot, when the monsoon has cleared and the hills are washed green. December to February is cold and is the season for snow, when Khajjiar and Dalhousie can turn white and the meadow looks its best, so carry heavy woollens and check road conditions before you set out. What to carry
