5N/6D Shimla and Manali honeymoon itinerary, day by day
The plan keeps travel sensible for a couple: two easy nights in Shimla, then Manali as the base for the snow and valley days, with the return worked around a stop at Manikaran.
Day 1: Delhi to Shimla, the drive up to the Queen of Hills
Our representative meets you in Delhi and you set off for Shimla by private cab, a run of 343 km that takes about 6 hours 45 minutes. Once you have checked in, the evening is yours to walk Mall Road and The Ridge, browse the shops, and settle in over dinner at the hotel. If you leave Delhi early, you can break the drive at Chandigarh for a couple of hours and see Pinjore Garden or the Rock Garden on the way.
Meals: Dinner
Day 2: Shimla, a full day of local sightseeing
After breakfast you head out to Kufri for the day, with pony and yak rides and views back across the valley, and stops at the Indira Bungalow and the Himalayan nature park. Back in town, Jakhoo Hill is the highest point in Shimla and the best spot to take in the whole ridge. The Mall, The Ridge, Scandal Point and Lakkar Bazaar are all walkable in the evening. Dinner and a second night are at the Shimla hotel.
Meals: Breakfast, Sightseeing, Transfers, Dinner
Day 3: Shimla to Manali via Kullu
You check out after breakfast and drive to Manali via Kullu, about 250 km and 6 hours 30 minutes on the road. There is an optional pause at the Kullu Vaishno Mata temple and the Kullu shawl workshops if you want to shop for a Kullu shawl or cap. Manali is your base for the next three nights, so the rest of the day is at leisure. Couples who want a quiet evening often walk up to the cafes of Old Manali. Dinner and overnight in Manali.
Meals: Breakfast, Sightseeing, Transfers, Dinner
Day 4: Manali, day excursion to Rohtang Pass and Solang
This is the snow day. After breakfast you drive toward Rohtang Pass, 51 km and roughly 1.5 hours from Manali, for skiing, sledging, snow-scooter and yak rides, taking the snow-line cab to the top on a sharing basis for the views. On the way back, Solang Nullah is where the paragliding and zorbing happen. It is an easy day to make as active or as relaxed as you like.
Good to know: Rohtang Pass is closed on Tuesdays and stays shut from roughly November to May. When it is closed, the day shifts to the Atal Tunnel and Sissu, where you still get clean snow and river views, or to an extended Solang plan. A Rohtang permit is arranged locally and is not included in the package price.
Meals: Breakfast, Sightseeing, Transfers, Dinner
Day 5: Manali, city tour and shopping
A relaxed morning after the snow day. A guided city tour takes in the Hadimba temple set among the deodars, Van Vihar by the river, the Siyali Mahadev temple, the Vashisht hot springs and the Tibetan monastery. The afternoon is free for the Mall and Manu Market for shawls, woollens and souvenirs. Dinner and a final night in Manali.
Meals: Breakfast, City tour, Transfers, Dinner
Day 6: Manali to Delhi, and the way home
You check out and begin the drive back to Delhi, a long stretch of 539 km that runs about 11 hours. The one big stop is Manikaran, where you can take a dip in the hot spring and visit the Gurudwara and the Shiva and Ram temples before the last leg. The trip ends when you reach Delhi.
Meals: Breakfast
Best time for a Shimla and Manali honeymoon
There is no single right month. It depends on whether you are travelling for the snow or for the weather, and the two do not overlap.
• March to June: of pleasant days and green valleys. Rohtang usually opens from May, so late-season couples get both the greenery and the snow line. This is the most popular honeymoon window.
• October to November: clear skies, thin crowds and crisp evenings, with the first snow possible by late November. A good choice if you want quieter hotels and better rates.
• December to February: full snow in Shimla, Kufri and around Manali. Rohtang is closed, so the snow day runs to the Atal Tunnel and Sissu instead. Pack for real cold and expect the odd road delay after heavy snowfall.
• July to September: the monsoon brings rain and a landslide risk on the hill roads, so most couples skip it. If you must travel then, keep the plan flexible.
For a month-by-month view of weather, festivals and what to pack, the Himachal tourism guide goes into more detail than a package page should.
How to reach Shimla and Manali from Delhi
This package is built around a private cab from Delhi and back, which is the easiest option for a couple with luggage and a fixed plan. If you would rather travel independently to the pickup point, here is how the routes compare.
By private cab (included in this package)
Delhi to Shimla is 343 km, about 6 hours 45 minutes, and Manali sits a further drive on. The cab is yours door to door, so you can stop where you like and keep your bags with you the whole way.
By Volvo bus (the budget alternative)
Overnight air-conditioned Volvo coaches leave Delhi's Kashmiri Gate ISBT each evening for both Shimla and Manali. It is the cheaper way in, and many couples use it to reach the start point and then travel locally by cab. If you want the itinerary run on a Volvo basis instead of a private cab, tell the tour coordinator at the time of booking and the plan and price are adjusted.
By air
The nearest airports are Shimla (Jubbarhatti) and Kullu (Bhuntar), both with limited flights, while Chandigarh is the reliable large airport about 4 hours from Shimla by road. Most couples find the direct cab from Delhi simpler than adding a short, weather-prone flight.

Where you will stay, and the honeymoon extras
You spend two nights in Shimla and three in Manali. The hotels below are the standard pairing for this package; agents confirm these or a similar-category property once your dates are set.
• Shimla: Hotel Green View Shimla, near the Himachal Pradesh University side of town, for the two Shimla nights.
• Manali: Hotel Mohan Palace on Naggar Road in New Manali, a short drive from the Mall, for the three Manali nights.
The honeymoon touches are part of the package, not an upsell: a candlelight dinner, a cake, and flower-bed room decoration on one night of your choice. If you would like to upgrade the hotels or add a private-view room, the coordinator can arrange it, and any change in the per-person price is shown to you before you confirm.
