How to reach Manali from Lucknow

There is no direct road or rail line from Lucknow all the way to Manali, so the journey runs in two legs: Lucknow to Delhi (or Chandigarh), then up to Manali. This package's Volvo starts in Delhi, and we can move your pickup to Chandigarh if that saves you time. Here are the realistic options.

By train to Delhi, then the overnight Volvo (most common)

Several daily trains connect Lucknow to Delhi in roughly 6.5 to 9 hours (about 555 km). Reach Delhi in the morning, spend the day, then board the evening Volvo that departs by about 5:30 pm for the 12 to 14 hour overnight run to Manali (roughly 537 km). You wake up in Manali the next morning, which is exactly how Day 1 of this itinerary is built.

By flight

Fly Lucknow (Chaudhary Charan Singh, LKO) to Delhi in about 1 hour 15 minutes and join the Volvo, or fly to Kullu-Bhuntar (KUU) through a Delhi connection and drive the last 50 km (about 1.5 hours) into Manali. Flying to Kullu is the fastest option but seats are limited and weather-dependent, so book early.

By train to Chandigarh, then road

If you would rather skip Delhi, take a train from Lucknow to Chandigarh (roughly 11 to 13 hours) and then drive the scenic 8 to 10 hours (about 310 km) up to Manali. We can arrange this pickup so the road leg starts from Chandigarh.

By road

A private cab or self-drive from Lucknow to Manali via Delhi is about 1,070 to 1,090 km and 18 to 22 hours on the road. It only makes sense if you want the drive itself to be part of the honeymoon; most couples pick the train-plus-Volvo route instead.

Solang Valley and Rohtang Pass

Solang, about 14 km from Manali, is the adventure hub: paragliding, zorbing, cable-car rides and, in season, snow. Higher up, Rohtang Pass is the classic snow day, reached on a slow, scenic drive past streams that cross the road. When Rohtang is shut for weather or permit reasons, the day shifts to Solang or to Sissu, just beyond the Atal Tunnel, which now holds snow later into spring and is a popular Rohtang alternative for couples.

Day 1: Reach Delhi and board the overnight Volvo to Manali

Your trip begins in Delhi, so reach the boarding point before 5 pm (couples from Lucknow usually come in by train or a morning flight). The Volvo departs at 5:30 pm sharp for the roughly 537 km, 12 to 14 hour overnight run to Manali. You settle in for a comfortable night on the coach and reach Manali by about 7 am.

Day 2: Arrival and local Manali sightseeing

Day 3: Full day at Rohtang Pass or Solang Valley

After an early breakfast, drive up to Rohtang Pass, one of the highlights of the trip. The road itself is an experience, winding past little streams and snow patches. Spend time in the snow and try the local activities. If Rohtang is closed for the day, the plan switches to Solang Valley or to Sissu beyond the Atal Tunnel, both of which give you the same snow-and-mountains day.

Day 4: Kullu and Naggar

A varied day through the Kullu valley. Stop at Naggar Castle and the Roerich art gallery, visit temples like Gayatri Mata and Gauri Shankar, and browse a shawl factory. If you would like, add river rafting in Kullu or horse riding at your own expense. Reach the hotel by evening for a candlelight dinner and a quiet night before you head back.

Day 5: Departure

After breakfast and check-out, our team transfers you to the bus stand for your return coach. From Delhi you connect back to Lucknow by the train or flight you arrived on.
