Udhagamandalam, the official name of Ooty, was once the favourite destination for summers among the British. The city, well located in the Blue Mountains, is a popular hill station in India. At a height of 7500 ft, it was the summer retreat for the Britishers, in the Western Ghats.

Ooty got its name, from ‘Whotai’ one of the dwarf bamboos that grow here. The hills of Doddabetta, Snowdon, Elk Hill and Club Hill, surrounds the city. Once you visit the hill station, you will carry back, along the idyllic view, for a lifetime. It is also famous for bustling flowers and wildlife alike. Shop for coffee, tea and some locally made chocolates. Ooty is at a distance of 127 Kms from Mysore. The temperature remains almost same throughout the year. The rainy season is very windy over here. Ooty also hosts the Annual Tea Festival and flower shows. On the way from Vadodara to Ooty, the oldest church of India, St Stephen’s church is located. English and Kannada is the major language used in this hill station. The Game of Snooker was also introduced here in the Ootacamund Club.

Kodaikanal, known for its grassy hills and waterfalls, the town is situated at above 2000 metres from the sea level. The town is around a star shaped, artificial lake. It was built in 1863 by Sir Vere Hentry Levinge, the collector of Madurai. Kodaikanal was also called as the Princess of Hills. The city even hosts, large number of Israeli tourists who flock here in the winters. Big trees, eucalyptus plants and lot more, the city are dominated by trees. Due to the development of the nearby cities, Kodaikanal remains dominated by tourists throughout the year.

The trip was good but its better to plan this with friends given the tiring travel hours. I had planned a 5-day trip but could enjoy only 3 days as Kodaikanal to Ooty was a six hour long journey n airport to Kodaikanal was 5 hours! Overall the experience was decent but next time I'll definitely do my research on travel time.

I visited Ooty, Wayanad and Coorg from 4th to 9th November 2023. Hotel Priti Palace, Ooty room was small. Cleanliness was ok. Room was on 2nd floor and there was no lift from groun to 2nd floor. Parking was on 7th floor. the lift is only from 2nd to 6th floor. Restaurant in this hotel is on ground floor and food was good. Hotel Wayanad Square at Wayanad is out skirt of the city (about 10KM) Room was big, clean. No restaurant to this hotel. Receptionist do not communicate in Hindi/ English. He knows only local language. Hotel City Comfort, Coorg Room was ok. No restaurant. They have closed the restaurant in Covid season but they have not updated their sight. It is misguiding us. Vehicle given to us along with driver was very good .

We had stayed in Sterling Kodai Lake. Stay was awsome. But quite disappointed with food taste. Cab driver Mr. Yogesh picked up from Airport on 1st day. For sight seeing Mr. Mathan was there and for Aiport drop Mr. Raja babu was there. All drivers were very co-operative and humble. All drivers are highly recommended. And best regards to them.
