2-Day Shimla Itinerary from Delhi

Overnight: Delhi to Shimla by AC Volvo

Your trip starts at a Delhi bus stand in the evening, where you board an air conditioned Volvo coach for Shimla. The road runs about 350 km through Chandigarh and up the hill highway past Solan, and the overnight drive takes roughly seven to eight hours. Sleep through the climb and you reach Shimla in the early morning, so you lose no daytime to travel.

Day 1 in Shimla: the Ridge, Jakhu and Kufri

A representative meets you at the Shimla bus stand and takes you to the hotel to freshen up. Once breakfast is done, the day belongs to old Shimla. Walk the Ridge and Mall Road, the pedestrian heart of town, and you pass Christ Church with its yellow neo-Gothic front, the Gaiety Theatre, and Scandal Point, the open square where locals still gather. Take the short climb or a cab up to Jakhu Temple, the hilltop Hanuman shrine on Jakhu Hill, and stop at the Kali Bari Temple on the way back. In the afternoon you drive out to Kufri, about 16 km from Shimla, for the Green Valley viewpoint and a walk among the deodar. Carry on to Fagu, a small town wrapped in apple orchards where a short horse ride is on offer, then head back for an evening of shopping on Mall Road. Dinner and a night at the hotel close the day.

Day 2 in Shimla: Naldehra, Mashobra and the drive home

After breakfast you check out and drive to Naldehra, home to one of India's oldest golf courses, laid out among cedar at around 2,200 metres. From there it is a short hop to Mashobra, a quiet orchard village the summer crowds tend to skip. Spend the middle of the day here before the drive back to the Shimla bus stand, where your Volvo to Delhi waits in the evening. You reach Delhi the next morning, which keeps the whole trip to a single night off work.

How to Reach Shimla from Delhi

Delhi to Shimla is about 350 km by road, and this package uses an overnight AC Volvo in both directions. That is the cheapest and most common way to make the trip, taking seven to eight hours each way through Chandigarh and Solan. Prefer to drive? The same route by private car runs six to seven hours in clear traffic and lets you break at Pinjore Gardens or Barog. Flying is possible into Shimla's Jubbarhatti airport, about 22 km from town, but flights are few and often cancelled in December and January, so most travellers stay with the coach. Best Time to Visit Shimla

Shimla works almost year round, but two windows stand out. March to June brings clear, pleasant days of about 15 to 25 degrees Celsius and suits anyone who wants to walk the Ridge and Kufri in comfort. Late December to February is the snow season, when Kufri and Fagu often get a fresh cover and the town fills with people hoping to catch it fall. The monsoon from July to September turns the hills deep green but brings landslides and road delays, so build in buffer time if you travel then.
