How to reach
By Air:
Kalibo is located in the Philippines, which is an archipelago, so the only way to reach Kalibo is by air. Kalibo hosts only one airport called the Kalibo International Airport. It allows flights from several countries like South Korea, China etc. Flights for Kalibo from India are available from all major cities, but none of them has a direct route. Flight schedules usually have 2-3 stops and take anywhere from 18 hours to a day to reach Kalibo. There are several buses, taxis, vans and airport transfer services near the airport which you can pre-book for a smoother experience.
Best time to visit
Summers-
Summers in Kalibo last from March till May. These months are pretty dry and temperatures vary between 23 °C - 32 °C. The water temperature is suitable for water activities and enjoying the beach.
Winters-
Kalibo’s winter months start from December till February. The weather is pleasant with temperatures well within the range of 23.4 °C- 29.6 °C. Tourists prefer it as the climate is not extreme and water temperatures are also warm enough, which makes sightseeing and water activities enjoyable.
Places to visit
Bakhawan Eco-Park:
A pride of Kalibo and a fantastic specimen of nature conservation, the Bakhawan Eco-Park is a mangrove reserve spread across an area of approximately 200 hectares. For tourists who love eco-tours, this Park is an ideal space. It has a 1-kilometre wooden bridge flanked by tall mangroves with a beautiful seaside view on its end.
Tigayon Hill and Cave:
An important contributor to Kalibo’s history and culture, Tigayon Hill was the safe haven of freedom fighters. It holds a sacred place among the locals and also displays the biodiversity of the area. It is the highest point of Kalibo that can be trekked to the top for a breathtaking view of the surrounding natural abundance and the Aklan River. You can explore the limestone caves and visit the museum to see historical artefacts.
Freedom Shrine:
Located on the XIX Martyrs Street, Freedom Shrine is a significant and historic landmark of Kalibo. Its meaning and value are attached to the 19 Martyrs of Aklan. Each of its steps holds the mortal remains of the fighters and lead to the statue of their leader, Gen. Francisco Del Castillo.
Museo It Akean:
For an insight into the culture and history of Kalibo, visit the Museo It Akean at the Mertelino Street. You will find a display of artefacts like Pina Silk textiles, religious relics, costumes of local festivals etc. It is also known for keeping beautifully decorated headdresses that the visitors can try on.
Kalibo Cathedral:
Also known as St. John the Baptist Cathedral, Kalibo Cathedral is where you can get some calm and peace. It is the centre of Kalibo’s major festivals like the Ati-Atihan festival. It has a modern architecture and houses statues of Sto. Nino and John the Baptist.
