Rangdum is located near the famous Drang-drung glacier. The town is about halfway between Kargil and Padum.

The best time to visit Kargil is in the summer months of May through September. This is the time when daytime temperatures are warm and the nights remain pleasantly cool. The winter season kicks in from November and lasts till February. Snowfall in Kargil in winter months shut access to Kashmir Valley and Zanskar region.
